PUBG Consistently Crashes 5 Minutes After Launch

I just installed a new SSD with Windows 11. After three days (it worked until then), PUBG decides to crash every 5 minutes and 30 seconds after I click Play in Steam. It does not matter whether the game is fullscreen, windowed, minimized, in lobby or in game. I can play other games for longer (tried Hitman 2, Halo Infinite and Rocket League) and I can reboot onto my old SSD with Windows 10 and it works fine. Most online posts are stating that I should install the Microsoft C++ Redistributables but I have done that multiple times to no avail. Has anyone here faced similar issues or have any idea?

Have you verified the game files?

 

What are the PC specs?

Yes

 

5950x AMD

64gb RAM

Samsung 990 2tb for OS and PUBG (moving PUBG to other drives doesn't change it)

1080ti

 

I assumed specs were irrelevant given I can reboot to Windows 10 and it works fine

can you try going back to windows 10? it might be a bit time consuming but it could be worth a try

I have my previous installation on the old SSD and I can reboot into it at any point and it works fine but defeats the purpose of upgrading to Windows 11 to only downgrade for 1 game. I would prefer to not play it than reinstall Windows 10 and everything else on my new drive again at this point in time

Do you have any other pieces of software running in the background? (MSI afternburner, discord, mods)

I tried closing everything I recognised as non-system processes and that narrowed it down to this. Not sure if I missed anything that is a possible test item

You've done a ddu of the old gpu drivers right?

Do you use the latest Bios on your motherboard?

Is the OS updated? Latest AMD chipset drivers?

Are other drivers updated?

Latest firmware on the new SSD?

It was a fresh install on a new SSD so there shouldn't be old drivers but I did try a DDU run

I had updated all but the chipset but unfortunately after doing this it did not fix the issue

Can you try running the RAM without XMP (DOCP)?

Also no luck here. I assume it is a software issue not hardware given it still works in Windows 10?

Yes, I don't exactly know how to fix it though since its pretty peculiar. Sorry I ain't got any more recommendations

I have been in DX11 as PUBG says it was the most stable. Just tried DX12 and same issue

Can you install the Epic version and try? That will let us know if it's something PUBG related, Steam related or OS related.

I had hoped this day would never come, can't believe I just installed Epic Games. Great idea though, I didn't realise it was also on there. It is the same happening after the same amount of time so I guess it is either PUBG/OS issue

The Windows 11 install, was it done with a medium created by the official Microsoft tool?

 

Can you do these commands on it and recheck?

DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

sfc /scannow

The installation failed every time I tried to install Windows 11 using the mediacreationtool from their website. Kept saying I need to restart. I ended up manually installing it from the command prompt using the below video and the same USB that was failing. Recreating the USB with the tool or using Rufus on an ISO both broke on 2 different USBs and a MicroSD card

 

The sfc /scannow found errors and I think the DISM did as well looking at the CBS log file. Going to restart and check if it fixed it

It just fixed itself over the weekend. No Windows updates were installed (other than security definitions), no PUBG or Steam updates were installed, and no Windows restarts. It was just broken one night and the next day it was working
