So that very first link:

Amazon.com: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB CPU Air Cooler, 6 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler, Dual 120mm TL-C12C-S PWM Fan, Aluminium Heatsink Cover, AGHP Technology, for AMD AM4/AM5 Intel 1700/115X/1200 : Electronics

@mpf200

@Skipple - Agreed

120mm AIOs are unfortunately NEVER advisable - same with 140mm. There is not enough radiator surface area and not enough water to cool properly - Simple Single-Tower Air coolers do a better job than single-fan AIOs.

I would only choose this cooler if you are building a small form-factor PC that doesn't have room for anything else.

Otherwise, tell me what case you are building in and I will recommend a high-performance cooler that is inexpensive.

Any reason you absolutely need it right now? You could save a bit of cash by going with other coolers while ALSO improving performance. Its a $400 CPU, rushing the cooling is not the greatest of ideas to be honest with you.

It would probably cool it to JUST below the 89C TJMax threshold at 100% load where the CPU begins throttling, so your boost clocks will be very much limited on that cooler.

Well I had the EK AIO 280mm and got it on sale for $75 US but it did not fit in my PC case. This is my build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3CvVd9

Alright I looked up the specs and this Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 will fit in your case and it cools as well as some 240mm AIOs anyways - all for $40.

What most people miss is for watercooling to be truly better than air - you need a LOT of water and a LOT of radiator surface area because water does not cool quickly - its the one negative to water cooling other than of course - the risk of leaking water.

Amazon.com: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler, PA120 SE, 6 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler, Dual 120mm TL-C12C PWM Fan, Aluminium Heatsink Cover, AGHP Technology, for AMD AM4/AM5 Intel 1700/1150/1200 : Electronics

If you want to be on the bleeding edge, an opportunity is coming up - The Sythe Fuma 3 releases the day after tomorrow - 7/20/2023 and is available for pre-order for $50:

Fuma 3 CPU Air Cooler, Intel LGA1700, LGA1151, AMD AM5/AM4/Ryzen 120mm, Dual Towers, Black Top Cover - Newegg.com

At this point, the store is closed. So what would you recommend for a cooler around the $100 price range?

If you want something higher end I can look into that as well but options for the biggest coolers are limited because your maximum CPU cooler height is 162mm.

 It will certainly cool well enough, just again I dont see the point in spending a bunch of extra cash when it might be 1-2C cooler than the Peerless Assassin. But I mean thats your call - its your money, just be aware that for AIOs to be truly better than air cooling you either need a super-thick 240mm radiator or 280+mm. And if you had trouble fitting your old AIO, I dont see how this could be much different unless you just didnt have an AM5 mounting bracket.

Yeah, I would prefer something preferably water-cooled but if you think it's not necessary that's fine. I got this EK one but it would not fit in my case lol.

But maybe if you could give me a few options of nonwater coolers that will fit in my build. I like the one you sent me but the problem is the shipping time.

Well that AIO you linked will certainly cool well enough, but here is a review of water versus air, it might just change your mind when it comes to how you feel about air cooling vs water cooling.

Which one did you like? I sent you two options so far that fit your case. Was it the Assassin or the Sythe?

Note this is DELTA OVER AMBIENT, not the actual recorded temps, so since the Ambient room temp was 21C for this test, the Peerless Assassin ran the OC 3950X at 74.4C

Yeah thanks, I currently have a air cooler in my build but I built this one 5 years ago. Just kinda lost with what to do now when it comes to cooling with all the new CPUs. I know the AMDs use way less power than the new intels so its better for temps.

Here is an Amazon search for the Assassin 120. Take a look at the sellers and shipping dates and see if you can find a shipping option that works, or look up the Assassin 120 on NewEgg:

The only thing I would suggest is think about moving up from that 1080p monitor. Linus showed that even professional E-Sports gamers who literally get paid to play see no improvement whatsoever going from 144Hz to 240Hz. So really, you are just throwing away a bunch of the XTX's power on useless frames.

Even on my 3440x1440p display, I easily max out the 144Hz refresh rate if I lower just one or two settings from Ultra to high and leave everything else on Ultra - even in extremely demanding 2023 games like Atomic Heart or the Dead Space 2023 Remake.

In truth, the card is designed to be a 4K/120FPS at High Settings or 1440p/180+FPS card. I don't see any reason to run an XTX on a 1080p display of any kind whatsoever.

Yeah, I plan on getting a new monitor soonish just going to do this one for now. I have had it for a while. 1440p or 4k?

That depends on your preference. I prefer 120-ish FPS so my 3440x1440 at pretty much ultra settings is perfect for me.

If you prefer extreme frame rates, get yourself a 1440p 240Hz monitor, they are a dime a dozen these days. If you prefer fidelity, get a 4K 120+ Hz monitor but know that fidelity uplift from 1440p to 4K is minimal. From pixels alone it will be tough to even notice a difference, where 4K shines is its selection on high-quality displays with OLED and HDR-600+ technologies.

But a good 4K monitor will cost you as much as another XTX GPU, so a good middle ground might be a good IPS 1440p monitor with HDR and great color accuracy. A good example would be something like this:

This is one of the absolute best 2560x1440p Monitors on planet earth that isn't an OLED (OLED is extremely expensive and has limited lifespan - so its only for the wealthy).
