Radeon 6800XT Crashing in Linux

I found the issue - as usual, it's an eye-d-ten-tee error.

I had an aggressive negative PBO curve setting in the bios. This caused (for some reason) the vga POST to hang, and other VGA related activity to suffer / crash. My best guess is that the overly enthusiastic undervolt caused the odd behavior, and now everything is functioning as expected. Boot times are about 20 seconds again.

I'm encountering a weird big on my Linux desktop.
Starting with specs:
CPU: 5900X
MB: MSI MAG Mortar WiFi B550
RAM: Crucial Ballistix @ 3600mhz
GPU: Powercolor 6800XT Midnight Black
OS: Fedora Server w/ gnome desktop (Wayland)

The conditions: I run two servers hosting windows VMs with Nvidia GPUs passed through. I use Parsec to stream the gaming VMs to my desktop. I'm using the VMs for primarily mobility and privacy/ isolation reasons. One VM is hosted on unRAID, the other is on Proximox. Both VMs stream at 1080p h.265.

The error: whenever I a) change the resolution of the VM, or switch between the VMs on parsec, the graphics driver crashes the whole gnome desktop, and the only remedy is a complete reset. The error is repeatable (endlessly).

I also have a laptop with a 3050ti running fedora. I don't have any of the issues mentioned above. I'm open to any tests/solutions.

Other weirdness; the bios post often hangs on vga for 20-40 seconds before finally completing post and getting into fedora. I'm not seeing anything in dmicode or systems-analyze that can identify what's happening here either.

try a different gpu with known stable drivers, or just use a real os

.... AMD drivers on RHEL based, name a better combo. I'll wait.

But TBH, not everyone wants ads in their start menu. I'm just trying to see if anyone else has a) had an issue posting with and AMD reference gpu, and b) had an issue with parsec crashing if you're switching between VMs. I understand my usecase is niche, but I still think it's neat.

well i suppose not everyone can figure out how to google removing ads from the start menu as well. real toughy

anyway , the purpose of trying a normal os and driver set is to determine if it's a software or hardware issue.

So, background: this same hardware has run: windows 10, windows 11, arch linux, fedora linux. All have had the same boot-hang issue. However, the parsec connectivity issue is relatively new to me.

Additional update: enabling CSM in the bios corrected the extended boot times with my 6800xt
