Samsung 980 pro - need to run at pcie gen 3, will it work well? Other options?

CriSis_

Hi,

I currently have a b550-e with a 980 pro 1tb, 5900x and 2060 (yes ik underpowered af gpu, its being upgraded xD) and since i bought a b550 board my second m.2 can only run at pcie gen 3. I found a killer deal on a 980 pro 1tb for £67 and was wondering if it would run any better or perhaps worse than the 970 evo plus 1tb i found on sale for £42 if it were to be ran at pcie gen 3 speeds?

Also, if you can think of any other better options at or below £67 for an ssd of 1tb or more with a dram cache please say so 😄

Thanks for any help in advance,

Lex.

It'll work at PCie3 speed

Not really a good deal then, a SN770 1TB  at £45 will be as good (and is still Gen4)

sn770 doesnt have a dram cache, the 970 evo plus is slightly cheaper is it worth the buy? UK prices have been kinda weird lately im not really certain whats a good buy at this point lmao

Thought the SN770 had a cache, at least it performs quite good

Anyway then a SN850X is still cheaper at £64

Really for a bit more (£80-90) I'd get a 2TB P3 /P3 Plus if it's used as game drive on Pcie3

i'd say get the SN770, it has good reviews all over the place, for example https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wd-black-sn770-ssd-review, or in Techtesters YT benchmark of Gen4 drive vids

It will. The IOPS and random read is more important not max bandwidth.
