Go to solution Solved by Redliquid,

FIXED: I had missed an extra 4 pin power supply near the processor...

Sorry for taking your time. And thanks for all the help everyone :-)

Specs:

Power supply: Xfx pro 850w

Mb: X79a - Gd45 plus

Cpu: i7-4820k

Os: Windows 8 on a 120 gb ssd (took it from my old comp)

I HAVE:

Connected the power supply to the Mb (all power wires are connected properly)

Added hyperx fury ram (dubble checked so they fit right)

Added my cpu, slapped on a line of thermal compound

And added a PH-TC12DX CPU cooler. Wired it to the cpu fan.

WHAT HAPPENS: pressing the lit up boot button on the Mb,

Boots up for half a second, cpu fan starts then it dies on me

Thanks in forehand.

Terribly sorry if my post is badly organized etc (stuck on a phone)

First question: Is this your first build?

second question do you have any othere parts you could use to trouble shoot ? (compatible ram psu cpu or MB from a known working system)

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

Are you using multiple sticks of ram, if yes try one of them alone if that dose not work try the other alone.

Edit: Try some ram from your compatible good system.

Trubbleshoot post.

Switched ram, no change

Used 1 ram, no change

Do I start the process of pickin it all apart and try to run it outside the case?

The odds of all that ram being bad is low so lets move on to the next most common failure point.

If this is a new PSU (or the psu has never been utilized this much) try a different PSU

(I was really surprised to find out that such a high end board doesn't have an error display on it.)

becaus the motherboard might detect that there is no gpu and say well i give up and just shut down becaus there is not a lot you can do without a gpu and also since there is no onboard it relys on a discreet gpu

This as a good question. If it is in the case where the standoffs already set for your ATX board or might one of the standoffs be in the wrong place and be shorting your board.

Completely new psu. Never been used before. I checked the I/O button and the wire to the wall

I made sure the standoffs are correct

Try your old PSU there could be a problem with it not supply the right voltage or be faulty in some other way.

Edited for clarity:

Wait the i7 4820k doesn't have a IGPU so with out an OS it might just be shutting down as soon as it completes its boot check.

Is it working now? What was the issue if it is.
