6300 or 6350

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

The point of the thread was to determine which should I get. Of course the 6350 will perform better: The question was is it worth it? :D

no its not worth just get the FX-6300 and overclock it yourself it takes 15 seconds to get 4.2 or 4.4ghz out of it, the FX-6300 and FX-6350 are the same exact chip, but the FX-6350 is AMD factory overclocked to 3.9...

I am on a budget build and am looking for a decent processor to game with. The fx6300 comes in at roughly £80 and the £6350 is around £90. I do not plan to do any overclocking, and was wondering if the performance boost I would gain from the 6450 would be worth the £10?

take a look at i3. there is also new one released. and you can use stock fan.

I3s are horrible for anything that uses more than 2 threads. They also slow down a lot with any amount of moderate multitasking.

Thanks for the response manny. :) I would take a 6 core processor with 12MB of cache at 3.5GHz over an i3 dual core for the same price any day. For the same price point I think I would be mad to go for the i3, no?

The 8320 is £30 more than the 6300, and I am on a tight budget.. :P

You should save some money, believe me, you'll be a lot happier.

My original build was a 4670K + 760. I saved some money for a bit (a year) and got a 4770K and 780 :)

Saving is the best thing to do if you want the best for your money.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Get the 6300 or the FX-8320 if you can afford it.

Were I to go for the 8350, what motherboard would you suggest?

I believe I mentioned in the original post that I was not going to be doing any overclocking? Which one is better considering this?

hummm, you should be aware that ''overclocking'' may seem like something only tech geeks can do or something, but here we are talking about only changing a entry in the bios of the system, on boot screen all you have to do is hit ''delete'' to enter the bios, then you find ''CPU multiplier'' this value will be set to 17.5 by default on the FX-6300 (17.5 x 200mhz = 3.5ghz) if you manualy put 19.5 there instead of 17.5, you have upgraded for free to a FX-6350 @ 3.9ghz...it take only 15 seconds really...

now that you know that, if you still does not want to do this (oh and btw you do it once, hit save and reboot and it's in the bios forever, no need to redo again, its done) then maybe the 10euros extra you are looking might be worth it, yes.

i would never advise 8350 just 8320

also, are you planning to buy custom cpu cooler?

btw between 6300 and i3 there isnt much difference. but if you use i3, you will have quieter rig and upgrade

The i3 only performed better in single threaded applications, otherwise the 6300 is better. As games use multiple threads, I thought I would go for the 6300 over say the 4130. But yeah, I was thinking after a while I would get a h100i to go with it after a while.

ok now i'm confused...you say you are not goign to overclock, but you want a H100i...you know that those are for avid overclockers right? no point in watercooling a CPU to run it at stock speed :)

not being mean or anything, i just try to understand and size you better here! :)

And yes the FX-6300 is a much more capable chip for multi-threaded applications, and games are all goign toward mutlithreading so it is indeed a much better choice for gaming, no doubt.

Haha. :D I am familiar with overclocking but I am overly cautions. (I managed to fry an old GPU while playing around with custom cooling and overclocks - to be fair it was pretty old!) I still might go with the 6300 to lower cost, but won't overclock until I get a more effective cooler.

I should have made things clearer. I want to keep down the noise as much as possible, so in purchasing an effective water cooler I can slow the fan speeds and keep the noise levels to a minimum. I had a really loud computer previously, and got fed up with it.

But water cooler is not the way to go for silence.

ok 2 things...if you don't play with the voltages (leave that on auto) you are safe to overclock an FX-6300 to about 3.9 or 4.0ghz without any issues on stock cooler...AS LONG AS YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE VOLTAGES, if unstable at 4ghz, try 3.9, then 3.8...dont raise the volts, that's it...now, an aftermarket CPU cooler will be much quieter, and will allow to raide the voltage a bit to get stabiltiy at higher frequencies, but if all you want is a more quiet system the H100i is really not what you want...a dual fan liquid cooler like that will make much more noise than something much cheaper with a single big fan like a noctua NH-U12S for example (seen here: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Noctua-NH-U12S-NH-U14S-Cooling,21899.html) this one will allow GOOD OVERCLOCKING and will be MUCH MORE QUIET than something like a H100i for example...+ a liquid cooler you will have the pump that makes quite a bit of noise too...

Thanks for the information - I will probably buy a good air cooler to reduce noise etc instead. (one of the other reasons I liked the h100i was the aesthetics - it looks much cleaner than a huge air cooler, but I don't want a side window so it doesn't really matter anyways. :D
