Are the dt 1990's worth it?

Fosh612

I own the Beyerdynamic amiron home and I am considering the dt 1999 pros. Many people state like Joshua valour that they sound alike with similar soundstage in detail just in different presentation. Apparently unlike the amirons which are laid back the dt 1990's are more close but people such as Zeos say that the amirons are very chill and inaccurate and not neutral like the dt 1990's.
So can someone help me out if they are worth getting as a good side grade? Or if I should just play with more eq?

I feel like you should be looking at the DT990 if you're looking for bright.

I love my DT1990 pro, they're very similar to the Focal Elex.  I haven't heard the Amiron so I can't compare them personally but the 1990 does almost everything my dt880 600ohm does while being WAY easier to drive.  While the 880-600 enjoys being hooked straight to power lines and turned up to feel at a concert, the 1990 is more refined at normal listening volumes and with some Dekoni pads they can be tuned to your liking.  I have some protein pads on mine and love how rich the bass is.  When compared to the Elex you "feel" the bass where as the Elex lets you "hear" the bass.  The Elex has better imaging and soundstage but not by much.  It's a little more refined than the 1990

Instead of buying another pair, have you considered playing with pads and sources? IE tubes?  The pads are by far the easiest way to adjust your headphones signature and tubes are just a ball of fun but not for everyone.  Also what are you using to power them now?  If you're using onboard I would start with a dac and amp to get that last 10% of sound then move on from there.

This darkvoice is now my main tube amp and I absolutely love it.  Darkvoice from Apos.audio (they price match and drop ship while offering warranty service in the states)

I think this post, and your original post, are very unclear.

Say it very simply..

  • Are you looking for similar to Amiron or different from Amiron?
  • How would you describe your Amiron sound?
  • What are you unhappy with about your Amiron?

If you want different it doesn't get much different than these Meze 99 Neo  I just ordered a pair because my brother in law decided to keep the Meze I gave to him but drop is out of stock.  They are not accurate and don't have great soundstage or imaging, but man are they an experience.  It's like tubes without the tubes.  But it would be cheaper and an experience for pads and/or tubes

First of all. Considered those focal. Gonna pass due to qc.. don't feel like dealing with it even though I may get warranty.. since I have the amirons I have dekonis elite velour and the alite sheepskin. I run it on my desktop with the Asgard 3 and for chilling I use the qudelix 5k.

I didn't state I basically want neutrality and detail.

I apologize. I have the amirons and enjoy them. I want something different such as neutral and detailed. Which is why I am looking at the dt 1990's but people say they sound similar. I am asking if more people agree or disagree.

I think the AKG K702 might fit the bill for detailed.

They're so detailed that I hate using them because it's so fatiguing, but man you can hear everything.

Back in my day, there was a Head-fi.org thread (or article?) that would update every once-in-a-while in regards to the "ultimate gaming headphones" and the way the author spoke about these was unreal. Gaming = FPS in this situation.

edit:

Found it! You can CTRL+F "Tier A", "Tier B", "Tier C", etc...

DT990's have a non-detachable cable.  If you know how to and are willing to solder, that's not an issue.  But I wouldn't recommend it to the majority of customers for this reason.

The company counts on many consumers just buying a new pair; this is planned obsolescence, a generally bad business practice.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Audio: Focusrite (Solo, 2nd), SM57, Triton Fethead, AKG c214, Sennheiser HD598's, ATH-M50x, AKG K240, Novation Launchkey

Wishlist: MP S-87, iPad, Yamaha HS5's, more storage

I have the DT 1990 pro and very happy with it

for me they are enough in details and neutral and that makes me happy with it. it is the one i just most often after the death of the Q702 i loved too

of course you can find better but for this range of price definitively one of the best

i have a DAC and i use for my PC .. i am trying to buy a better DAC by the way i have cheap one but first this month is buying the new CG (hum so expensive)

you know the best is try find someone having it to listen to it ... or try buy in store you can return it
