I'd go 7600x for the future upgradability. But if your just gonna game then get the 7600 non x which costs the same and performs the same while being much easier to cool and draws less power

Message me on discord (bread8669) for more help

Since your sig says that you already have a B550 board, I'd just upgrade to the 5800X3D in socket. It will save you hundreds of dollars and performs about the same.

Don't skimp on the motherboard as that will very much limit your ability to replace the 7600x with a higher core count variant cpu or even next gen cpu. Honestly motherboards are very important and you should get a decent quality one.

In that case, get a B650 board and the Ryzen 5 7600X. It performs about the same as the 5800X3D, but comes with a solid future of upgrade possibilities. Just make sure you don't skimp on the motherboard's VRM.

Luckily, most B650 boards are pretty good, so just avoid the Asus Prime B650M-A, the Asus Prime B650-Plus, and the Gigabyte B650M K, and you should do fine. Even the cheap Asrock B650M-HDV/M.2 has a good enough VRM to handle the 7950X, so with a decent board that cheap, there's no reason to go with an A620 board.

Here's Hardware Unboxed's recent buying guide for B650 boards:

If you never intend to upgrade the CPU, it would be fine, but the VRM sucks. It can't handle a stock 170W TDP part - so no Ryzen 9 7900X or 7950X - which will also apply to any future Ryzen parts with a 170W or greater TDP, greatly limiting your upgrade path.

That testing Hardware Unboxed did is at stock - no PBO applied or anything - and the board's VRM goes over 100C.

If pricing in your area is such that the Prime B650-Plus is the only reasonably priced option, it's not a completely garbage board, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have options with better VRMs, as getting a board with a good VRM today could let you upgrade to a top-of-the-line part in 4-5 years.
