In the "Linus eats the Bomb sauce" stream he showed an example of a potential belt they'll make.

Please don't make a hole belt (or whatever they're called). I personally prefer the cotton* band belts where you have a friction faster (don't know what they're called either).

The step-less adjustment is great, and they're easier to put on and off. They also look cleaner without the unused holes.

*they can also be made out of leather, but vegan, environmental friendly materials are always to be preferred.

I think this is more of a personal preference, I personally cant stand a big and bulky buckles and like to keep it as minimalistic as possible. Also choosing the right size belt is really important for a cleaner looking belt, any overlap longer than I'd say 10~ cm (almost 4 inches) looks bad and points too a wrong sized belt.

So serious question... How does "vegan" leather actually hold up? I've never come across any "fake" leather that was any good.  Real leather if cared for properly is very durable. I have a leather belt that is ~20 years old now.

This is the biggest case of "this product must be for me and me only" I've ever seen.

For me a friction belt looks like a child's belt. This belt I assume is aimed at people who will wear it at work with smarter trousers. Surely you understand other people want different products than you?

I've had a few and the fake leather material (usually polyurethane) creases and flakes off especially where the buckle rubs against the belt. In my experience they will last about a year before they start showing some noticeable signs of wear. They're normally pretty cheap ($10 or so) so once they get to this level I normally just replace them. It's the same as the cheap shoes problem ("it's expensive being poor") where if you can't afford decent shoes that last 10 years you end up buying cheap shoes and replacing them every year and end up spending more money in the long run. I mainly used them because my work's dress code required men wear black leather belts and they were good enough to get me by.

The only thing that I really like about them over real leather is that they tend to be more soft and flexible. I've had some real leather belts that have felt really stiff.

Edit: I don't know if there's any special "vegan leather" material that is more durable but typical synthetic/fake leather tends to not be anywhere near as durable as real leather.

Spoiler

Here's some fake leather belts I have that are worn particularly around where the buckle sits. I've stopped using these belts because of the wear but I just keep them as spares. These are older belts so I'm not sure how long I used them for but I would guess probably about 1 year on the one of the left and maybe 2-3 years on the right.

If I were to buy an LTTstore belt my expectations would be that it would last much longer. They have the leather backpack coming soonTM so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't use real leather for a belt as well.

It was my understanding that the leather backpack was made from vegan apple leather. I'm not exactly sure when I heard this, but I'm 90% sure it was during WAN Show.

I've never heard of apple leather. If that is the case then LTT really should stop calling it leather because my impression was the leather backpack was going to be made from... Leather.

*Possible Hot take incoming...* Then doesn't that possibly throw the environmental argument out the window? If the "faux" version needs to be replaced every year, but my "real" version is good still 20 years later?

Fine if your want to "protect the animals" and this is your way of helping. (not necessarily you @Spotty) However if something is legitimately inferior and replaced way more often, that has to have an environmental impact right? Environment can't be part of the argument. Or did I miss something?

Since I switched to using an elasticated 'knitted' style belt where you can just stick the pointy thing through anywhere on the belt, I don't think i could go back to a 'standard' belt.

Having it stretchy means it's super comfortable when I'm standing and sitting (something which I've never found with standard belts), and being able to infinitely adjust it means I don't end up with the inevitable position of being in-between hole sizes

I also have one of these, I'm actually wearing one right now. They're good and I wouldn't mind one of those either. My main gripe with them is that I never really know what a "middle" hole is, and sometimes end up with an off-center one, slightly messing with the buckle.

The reason why I originally posted was because you can find hole-bockled belts everywhere in all levels of quality. Linus normally says he wants to make products where he actually adds something new, or at least raises the quality to a decent level. There's nothing wrong with a hole-buckled belt on LTTstore.com, but he'd just add to a bloated market.

However the friction-buckle, or braided belts are much more a dime in a duzen. There he could add more to the market.

People who think them childish be damned. Enjoy your medieval, unconformable belts, while I'm basking in the sun of the belt sitting always exactly as firm as I need it.
