I don’t think NAS software is the NAS market per se largely because of the free software available.  The problem is there are NAS prebuilts and NAS software.  Whether NAS software is the NAS market I guess is the part I am differentiating.  I don’t debate your point.  I don’t think LTT would enter a market populated by potential advertisers without special accommodations.  I’m merely stating what I think is the rationale.

adjacently I’m not sure it’s a good idea long term.  My suspicion is that a for-profit NAS software company is going to have a feature or set of features that are unavailable currently in the open source versions or it would simply be on a long-term death spiral.  I don’t trust open source software not to have a given feature in the future though.  Open source stuff is slow but has a way of surviving.  It may be a short term investment.  Photoshop has survived gimp though.

So this started as a communication failure when you replied to my post implying there was an error, but it seems to just be a confusion of what you think and reality.

Given that there is little mention of what the project actually is and all the details, it seems premature to judge what it is and it's merits in the marketplace.  Suspicions and speculations aren't worth as much.

Not sure what you mean in the last part of the first paragraph,  the second seems fair though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

You implied I was factually incorrect, but really I was correct and you are just confused.

What you think about Linus's investment doesn't matter!

Once again. Ltt is not entering the market. They gave a company money as an investment. Nothing more.

This is what I have been saying

The impression I get is that any disagreement I had was at most partial and the person who is confused is you because you took it as a full one.   As for the second I agree though I think that is true for basically everyone.  I assumed this to be the case when I said it.  This is an Internet forum.  Outside of troubleshooting issues for users comments here have little if any impact on anything.  Ever.

Sorry, you are trying to claim my comment is incorrect because you think Linus invested in a company building a complete NAS solution (hardware and software) rather than just a software solution?

WAN show where he discussed this for reference.

Honestly, I would love for someone to come with a feature set parallel to unraid and beat them at it.  The amount of recent issue's i have had that have been unraid's fault (yes, i submitted a bug report and yes, they admitted they messed up in their latest release, this is public on their forums.) have been less than acceptable for paid software.  Yes, i would understand if i encountered problems on truenas core, Its free, but when i pay for software, i expect the support for it to be a bit more usable than it is with unraid.

These comments don't make sense, so it's hard to grasp what you are trying to communicate.

I never disagreed with the concept that LTT was in the right.  The phase ‘not the same’ was referring to the concept not your comment.  Perhaps “so not the same” would point better.
