Does anyone have any good recommendations for a wired or AA battery controller for pc?

I'm not a fan of controllers with proprietary batteries because they inevitably are trash by the end of their life with no way to replace the battery. I'd much rather just put in my own rechargeable AA batteries and be fine or just have it wired (realistically I'm sitting at my desk when playing anyways). The problem is all the high end controllers like the GuliKit hall effect controller have built in batteries.

The ones I can find that take batteries separately or are wired seem to be really low quality. The best I can find is the current Xbox one controller which is what I have currently but was wondering if there was something better with the hall effect sensors or additional paddles on the back which would be nice in some games.

unless if you're doing multiple charge cycles per day worth of gaming on your controller, the builtin battery will outlast the rest of the controller, most likely.

also - everything 8bitdo makes is also USB-capable iirc.. i'd be amazed if they're the only brand that figured that out.

You can buy batteries and replace the built in rechargeable ones, but you have to measure the dimensions first and may have to solder a couple of wires (if the connector is different you would have to "transplant" the connector to the new battery

Here's a bunch of them ... match the voltage (to get same chemistry), then get whatever size fits in the compartment  : https://www.digikey.com/short/zj5jd037

Lithium batteries have more capacity and they're more lightweight so of course they're used instead of aaa or aa batteries.

I second what OhYou said, the Xbox 360 controller is a great option and it is widely considered to be one of the best controllers ever. Its also very cheap and comes in wired and wireless variants. But i recommend the wired version so you don't have to deal with dropped inputs or batteries.

On my previous controller the dropped inputs just got ridiculous and that one used a Bluetooth dongle, which is supposed to provide less latency and more consistency than a regular Bluetooth connection.

PS5 controller can be used with a USB cable.

King Kong 2 Pro can be used with a USB cable. XBox controllers all use AA batteries, and can also be used with a USB cable.

My King Kong 2 is going to wear out long before the battery dies.

My PS5 controllers both died from stick failure, as did 2 of my XBox controllers. Going to convert my Steam Deck to hall effect before I kill it's sticks.
