Server Rack PC Build?

Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

there are no good rackmount cases. there's acceptable options, but none are "good".

buy a desktop case that's rooughly as tall as a rack is wide, and lay it down on a rackmount shelf. (or tinker some rails together, options exist.)

I'm debating whether to attempt a Server PC Build at some point. Looking to pick up a small rack at some point for a NAS Server/Switch so I can streamline all of our comms and have a little environment in which I can practice networking etc. Got me thinking about building a PC into a 4U case or something along those lines.

Anyone aware of any cool products/cases out there that could help me plan this vision? (UK Based)

There's really no 'great' DIY rack mounted servers. There's some cases you can get that are rack mounted, but they're hard rack mounted in just the front and don't accommodate a lot of fans natively.

I have a 7950x server build at work I put together for a specific application that really really wants IPC/single threaded performance that only came with a 120mm front fan and two rear 92mm fan slots. Can't find the case initially but it was like $300 and we have several other factory built machines that use it, but its not great.

Silverstone does make some weird stuff, might be able to find a horizontal mATX case that you can build a rack shelf for.

Thanks for that, yeah I couldn't find many options when browsing. Was hoping there was a few bespoke companies hidden away offering something decent. But a shelf and a suitable case do seem to be the best option.

Thanks!
