Just bought a used computer, now need graphics card.

ShayOh

I bought a desktop with an i5 6500, 16 GB ram, and a 2 TB hard drive.
Im planning on making it a Minecraft machine.

all i need is 1080P, High, locked 75hz. no need for Raytracing.

I've been building my own gaming desktops for years but have been a bit out of the loop for the last four years.
I checked Youtube and Reddit, and people mention having an RTX 2060 and only getting an "OK" performance. The game came out right before the ten series of GTX. What am I missing? How did the game become so demanding?
Isn't the joke that Minecraft can run on a potato?
He is planning on playing online
So which graphics card should I buy?

TIA

I would personally go with an RTX card because Minecraft looks immaculate with RT. It's too good to miss on.

But other than that, any modern GPU from the past 5 years will give you a locked 75fps at 1080p in no RT Minecraft. So pick a cheap option like a used 2060 or even cheaper ones. That CPU tho, I'm not too sure if it won't cause you drops.

With a budget like that, probably a GTX 980/Ti. Though an RX580 might perform better with its higher memory config.

Locally I should be able to get off Facebook Marketplace either a GTX 1080 or, with a bit of stretching, an RTX 2060. but i also wonder which would be the AMD equivalents(or better) that i might be able to get better value off of eBay

you can literally just buy pretty much anything and get a 1080p high refresh-rate experience with no RT. just sort by price and make sure it's a GPU from the past couple years. Then look up youtube for how minecraft runs on it.

Here is how it runs on a 1060. I think you can get a used 1060 for sub 100 usd.

5700XT would smoke both at 100-125 range but their ray tracing performance might as well dont exist. So for anything besides minecraft RTX, that would be my pick.
