Xeons are server grade parts. They have things that you aren't going to use for gaming or general computing, and cannot be overclocked AT ALL. They're just a different use case.

Ive seen a lot of people say get a xeon instead of an i7. Why would i want an i7? What is it about server parts that makes you still want to use an i7?

You can overclock the i7 k versions and get better performance out of it.

Xeons are built for 24/7 use, usually run less hotter and have a lower base clock, and it has no iGPU. Also Xeons support ECC memory but that's for different uses.

it has no iGPU.

Not 100% true. The 1245 and 1275 have integrated GPUs on them. The 1245 is still cheaper than the 4770 also. You literally loose nothing in that case (assuming no overclock since we are talking about a vanilla 4770) and gain the ability to use ECC if your motherboard supports it.

But do you lose anything? :P

Also, the boost clock on the 1245 is 100mhz slower, so that's... something? It's not much, but it's worth noting.

Which xeon are you looking at, exactly?
