144hz external monitor for laptop

zynjace

Hey guys. Im quite indecisive about buying either a 144hz 27" monitor or just simply 60hz 27". I would use it as an external monitor for my laptop asus g750jz with gtx 880m 4gb. So will be my laptop able to make use of a 144hz monitor or I would be just wasting my money ?Thx in advance guys

Here are the benchmarks of the video card http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-880M.107622.0.html

Great choice, as long as you know that it is a TN panel with less color depth but the trade off is higher refresh rate then I would say go for it

But is an expensive 144hz monitor worth for that laptop? :)

For sure! if it is 1080p then of course, the 880m is equivalent to a desktop gtx 770

It is 1080p ! :) Anyway thx for help. I was really in ends as a 144hz monitor here in my country costs twice the price of a 60hz, so I would be really angry if there was no improvement :)

It will look better than a 60hz, and the GPU can handle it, however don't expect blazingly beautiful colors on it, it's a TN panel.

Sorry for not mentioning that I will be using it mainly for gaming. Btw --- someone told me I need to put up 120/144 fps to benefit fromm the monitor . The benchmarks show that just some games on high ( I dont play ultra) will show enough Fps . Is that true ?

If you can play games at 70 fps, you will notice the improvement already, the cap is at 144hz. A 60hz monitor, will only refresh the frame every 16ms, if you have 61fps on that second, you would have lost a frame.
