Right now my PC is as follows:-

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

MOBO: Gigabyte B550M DS3H

RAM: 16GB 3200mhz (8GB*2)
GPU: GTX 1050 2GB

PSU: KCAS 650W 80+ Gold Semi-Modular

I'm looking to upgrade to 1080p, 60+fps at medium-highest settings.

so give me your thoughts, Budget is about $USD120 or ~RM600

I'm willing to buy either a New or Used

I've heard Intel has been massively discounting their GPUs so are they something I should consider?

Hi, fellow Malaysian here! For around that price your best option is a used GTX1660 Super like this one, though the 6GB VRAM might be a bit too little. If you need 8GB, you can also try a used RX590, though the link sells from Mainland China. Either way, both options I suggest are below RM600. I myself got a used GTX1070 for RM360, try searching for one below 600 bucks.

If you up your budget $20 as I see lots of RX 5700 XT sold prices around $140 used on ebay and the RX 5700 XT demolishes cards like the RTX 2060 or GTX 1660 Super that can be found around $120 used. There is nothing worth a crap for $120 new.

Idk if you have that deals but here we have brand new RX 5700 XTs going for $130-$150 and they are by far the best deal you can get for anything below the new RX7600.

heyo fellow Malaysian, what a rare sight!

damn a GTX 1070 for under 400, baiknya

i actually found a solid offer but im not sure about the value proposition.

From what I can understand the GPU works fine but acts up when under heavy load.

Im guessing it's either poor case airflow and suffocating the GPU or it needs a repasting.

I'd much prefer a legit seller on Shoppee/Lazada/Mudah with a non-zero number of non-fake reviews, that's where I got my 1070. In any case, you gotta ask the seller for benchmark and stress test results to prove that the card's still good. Also get the VBIOS version number off GPU-Z to prove that it isn't a mining BIOS, RX580s were really popular mining cards.

How do I put this. Umm  you'll need more than 120 dollars for a GPU. And in all honesty if 20 dollars is going to make or break you, save more and or reconsider your priorities man.

Do you really want a 5+ year old GPU?  Nowa days 300->400 is pretty much scrappy the bottom of the barell. IMO the 230->300 dollar RX6600 is the minimum for much of anything.

i probably should have clarified, im buying used. In Malaysia at any rate there's quite a selection of 2nd hand GPUs available under $USD200.

how do i know its not a mining card? like whats the process to finding that out?

Also, I discovered why it was dirt cheap, the fans on it are funky.

they don't spin at all but when the GPU overheats, it blacks out, and the fans on it kick into high gear and cool it down to normal.

Theres also this weird scramble effect across my display like a filter from a 90s B&W film I can see tiny white pixels just flickering all the damn place

I'm not sure if that's just my shitty screen and I'm just noticing it or itsd the GPU

Update: Hvaing downloaded AMD Adrenalin, turns out the GPU was set to 0RPM mode

Switched it off and set it to run the fans and its working fine now

will need to check on other things like the thermal paste situation and maybe a clean up

still have no idea what this 90s filter screenthing is

Have you tried another display cable? My first suspicion of the 90s filter thingy is a bad display cable.

Hmmm, I might have to

Another problem has cropped up, the GPU tends to blackout and lose display signal and the fans go crazy.

So far this has happened twice while playing some kind of game. Be it Roblox or Rainbow 6 Siege.

I'm thinking it might have to do with thermal paste so I'm going to try cracking it open and see what going on down there

Since you upgraded from an NVIDIA GPU to an AMD GPU, you need to completely uninstall all traces of the NVIDIA drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller, otherwise AMD drivers don't play well with the traces of NVIDIA drivers. Have you done DDU before installing the RX580?

Ah yes, I've downloaded AMD adrenaline, does that auto download the drivers or do I have to manually download them somehow?

Also what's DDU?

DDU=Display Driver Uninstaller. Download the latest drivers straight off AMD's site first, then go into Safe Mode without networking, then run DDU, then after the PC restarts, run the AMD driver installer. Also make sure that Windows doesn't automatically install drivers by choosing the option in DDU.
