does the rtx 2070 support dp 2.1

i just ordered a displayport 2.1 because i realized the one im using is displayport 1.2. I just realized that I actually dont know if it does support displayport 2.1 or if it even matters

The RTX 2070 doesn't support DP 2.1. It has DP 1.4a. But usually a monitor with DP 2.1. But they are all backwards compatible. So you can still operate in DP 1.4 mode.

Can you describe what you mean by "i just ordered a displayport 2.1 "? DP 2.1 is a protocol version, not a physical thing you can order. I'm not aware of any displays you can buy that support DisplayPort 2.0, let alone 2.1 that was just announced in October.

You can use a dp 2.1 cable even if your gpu or display doesnt support it. As long as you can get the proper resolution and refresh rate out of your monitor then it doesnt matter what generation the displayport connection is.

Currently no Nvidia GPU support DP 2.1, this included RTX 2070. The only GPU in the market right now support DP 2.1 is AMD RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT.

 

As for monitor wise, basically no DP 2.1 support yet that already release to market. I know Asus ROG SWIFT PG32UQXR and 57" Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 will support when it was release to market.

 

But as everyone said, all cable is backward compatible, it will work in lower version device (GPU and monitor) without any issue. In summary they is nothing to worried for purchasing a DP 2.1 cable and it is future proof when you are upgrading the GPU and monitor in future that support DP 2.1

DP 2.1 monitor is not release to market yet but they are DP 2.1 cable already selling in market now.

Retailers may type "DP 2.1" in the product description, but there is no such classification system for cables. Anyone can label any cable with any "version number" as it has no meaning.

 

There are a few cables that have passed DP40 and DP80 testing, but none of those are them.

This doesn't mean it cannot be capable of reaching DP 2.1 standard also. You will only know when you own the DP 2.1 devices (GPU and Monitor).

 

For certified wise, they are already 72 products in the list.

DP cables are not rated on those version numbers. Theoretically the manufacturer can type anything they want there. 

 

The problem is manufacturers and the majority of the uninformed public do not understand this. HRB3 bandwidth rated will be the best you can buy in the vast majority of places.

That is the most easier way to let consumer differentiate it. 

 

Even the Display Port site also accept and certified the cable with naming as DP 2.1

 

Monitor will call it support DP 2.1, GPU is also call it support DP 2.1, do you think it make sense don't call the cable as DP 2.1 but instead the bandwidth rate which should be under the specification not the naming. If you ask me what the bandwidth rate of DP 1.1, frankly speak I cannot remember, and it is unnecessary to ask consumer to remember it.

 

It is normally start with model number and later DP version before others information included.

Of course, being uncertified doesn't tell you anything either way, that's the point. You don't know what you are going to get.

 

Using version numbers in the first place is what has led to so much confusion and fake products in the industry.

Even using others information, it can be fake either, they is no differences, VESA certified is useless as well as they is still plenty of no certified product put certified by. VESA is not prevent it from selling either.

 

When they want to fake it and cheat consumer, they always got the way.

 

For example below this product, it is put as VESA certified also, but you go check and mentioned it is not certified, I later check also cannot find as well. But this are official selling at big online store - Amazon.

Right, so you were able to determine the product is not certified.

 

It's no different than any other certification. Of course any product can put a fake UL logo or fake whatever and claim they are certified. But without control of the 1st party database website they won't fool consumers who do their due diligence and check. But who will check? No one, because people don't know the database exists. So what needs to be done is educating people about how to find genuine products, not just "buy something that says version 2.1 on it". VESA needs to make a lot of usability improvements to their database too, but that's not something we can control.

But they is a problem also, not every place can get all those certified one. I so far only buy once certified and it coincidence did not perform better than not certified brand. To me electrical product also based on luck.

 

Don't forget you may happened get the counterfeit product as well especially on those very well known brand.

 

VESA I think is the worst certified brand, they should not have HDR 400 and also not having bad display but due to meet the certain requirement and manage to get HDR 1000 certified. I agreed with you VESA need improvements.
