Hello all, I have had this problem for a while now, my computer is definitely what some call capable (16 gigs ram, AMD FX 8350, Radeon RX580 8 gig) and can easily run RDR2, Battlefield, really anything I need at 50+ frames. But when it comes to Minecraft Java (A game I remember our 15 year old office PC running easily when I was younger) it stops dead in it's tracks, it stutters every other second or so, making the game damn near impossible to play, or at least be any good at. I've tried reinstalling graphics drivers and am running on Optifine with 4 gigs of VRAM available to Minecraft. Any known fixes? I can imagine this is common.

Local or remote host? You also shouldnt expect great performance out of that CPU at all, especially with Java.

FYI, the setting you set there changes maximum allowed RAM usage by the Java process, doesnt have anything to do with vram.

You are entirely single core CPU bound in this application. If you look in other places, you'll find that people had the same problem 8 years ago with your CPU and minecraft. You either have to lower your simulation/draw distance and/or see if you can find settings that make it comfortable to play at or check out the bedrock edition, to see if that fixes it.

I saw something in a thread from 2014 about optifine multi-core options that can make it possible to run. But I'm certain you can figure that out by yourself.

Yes I notice that on bedrock when I'm playing with xbox friends, Minecraft runs seamlessly, but obvs not the same on Java. I'll check out the simulation distance

Is Java really that demanding now? Like I say the CPU can handle modern games alright. Also thanks for that FYI, I saw something that said otherwise but thanks.

FX 8350

there's your problem.

dont use optifart, install forge or fabric, and some of the vareous optimization mods.

then just do the usual tricks:

- reduce render distance (10chunks at most, perhaps down to 8)

- turn off shadows, clouds, fog.

- allocate enough ram, but dont overallocate because that worsens garbage cycles.

java isnt demanding, it's inefficient, and minecraft has much more 'liberal' graphics options now.

It is just the optimization of it. Most modern CPUs handle minecraft fine, so there isn't much value in optimizing it for older/slower CPUs, that happen to have lots of cores/threads.

Modern games on the other hand optimize to run on game console, which now also have multiple cores, so they are able to utilize your CPU much more effective. On top of that, java isn't the best programming language to write fast and efficient code, so you are also losing a bit of performance to that.
