CSGO frame drops please help me

Go to solution Solved by Sima01,

CSGO itself benefits from the single core speed as far as I remember, don't quote me on this one, I doubt it has something to do with the GPU, 83 is little bit higher to be honest, but I can't give you an precise answer on why do you get those lows. Try lowering your RAM speed, try lowering your XMP profile, just because you can switch to it doesn't mean its stable. You could reinstall CSGO or just put fresh install of Windows on your PC. I have Gainward dual fan 3060 ti and I didn't notice  that high temps as far as I remember.

Hey guys, long-time listener first-time caller.

I recently upgraded from a 980 to an Aorus Elite 2 3060ti (DDU was used in safe mode), paired with an Intel i5 10600K, 32GB of DDR4 memory with XMP on to run at 3200MHz (at least according to task manager)

CSGO was running fine on this setup with the 980 installed, my average FPS is higher now in CSGO but I'm noticing some quick freezes and fps drops, 20 is the lowest I've seen, and sometimes it might only drop to 100 (I believe the drop is lower as it's really noticable but isn't displayed in the fps counter or was too quick for me to see it) it drops from like 300-400 on average map dependant and the frame drops are only for a split second but its enough to get me killed and kill my fun.

Lowering my graphic settings doesn't appear to have much of an effect good or bad

NZXT cam shows very low use of my CPU and my GPU nothing is throttling due to heat (the highest GPU temps I've seen in CSGO after I installed some new fans were under 50 Celsius and my room was in the low 20 deg celcius

I've tried to have a look at my all-core usage in task manager while in-game, and it appears 4 of them or so are higher than the rest but I don't think they're maxing out if need be I can post a screenshot in about 3 hours roughly of my task manager CPU core usage in-game and someone more knowledgeable than me can have a look.

I tried using resizable bar a couple of weeks ago and it caused this issue, I quickly turned it off and I believe it stopped for a while but now it's back.

Apart from when resizable BAR was on I don't remember having these frame drop issues until I installed the new fans, my GPU was running at 83 Celsius constant in more demanding games so it was needed, there are 3 140mm fans running off a fan controller (Fans are 5 pin motherboard is 4 pin had to use the supplied controller) I don't think this is causing an issue but I didn't play a lot of CS in the period before installing the fans and I can't remember if the frame drops were occurring then or if it's only after the fans

I've seen online two possible fixes I will try before trying a fresh driver install these are disabling fullscreen optimization for CSGO and disabling the high precision event timer as well.

So all that being said I'm looking for some advice in terms of other things to try and some form of 'troubleshooting equation/guide' as to what I should try first and so on to figure out what is or isn't causing the issue.

This is my first time posting to any forum so sorry if I've given too much info or if this is in the wrong section etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

I forgot to mention if I try running pretty much any form of OC on my GPU even something like +20 clock speed when I load into a map/server in CSGO both my monitors will turn black for a few seconds, the game will remain open, I can move shoot and be killed but the monitor will not display the game, I can see it running in the taskbar and I can click it but nothing will bring it up on the display, it only happens in CSGO no other game so I believe this is a CS/software issue, not a hardware issue, I run +80 clock speed with +10% on power limit and +7 celsius on the temp limit with no problems in any other game running constantly under 80 celsius, hopefully this might help clue some people into what is going on with my CS

This is normal as csgo only uses 4 cores maximum.

Might have to do with the gpu not being pushed hard enough. You can always alter gpu settings specific to programs in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Thanks, I'll have a go with XMP turned off or on a slower setting and then report back, I've had it on for a long time way before changing to the 3060ti but there might be some weird incompatibility with the 3060ti causing it

So disabling XMP did appear to fix the issues frame lag issues in CSGO, and disabling full-screen optimization has stopped the weird overclock issue in CS, with XMP off though I do think there's been a performance drop in other games, so I think I'll try a fresh CS install and see if it runs well again with XMP on, if not I'll just disable it when I'm going to play CS, but for now its fixed either way. Thanks for the help guys

I don't think under 50 degrees Celsius is that high of a temp for a GPU even in a low-intensity game like CSGO right? If you are referring to where I said 83 degrees that's my bad I should of worded it better but that was in games like Forza Horizon on ultra using the OC scanner or Hogwarts Legacy etc, and that's due to my older mid-size case, it doesn't have great airflow and the GPU takes up most of the case being a 3 fan but I've now got an extra intake on the front and the side panel next to the GPU and my temps are comfortably below 80 sometimes under 70 in Forza and other AAA games I've tried.
