Did I do it right?

GregzTheGreat

i7 4700k 3.5Ghz

Dark Rock 3 CPU cooler.

16gb of Corsair Vengeance RAM, 1886, 9 CAS.

MSI G65 Gaming Mobo.

250gb SSD

2TB HDD

Phantom 410 Black and orange case.

Corsair CS750M PSU.

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 780ti Windforce Edition.

Windows 8.1.

I'm wondering though... I have started it up, installed a few mobo drivers off the disk it came with, an SSD driver, NVIDIA drivers and Windows update, as well as AVG antivirus. Is there anything else I'm missing? This is my first time initializing a PC for the first time.

Do I go back into the BIOS and select the #1 priority boot drive to the SSD? Or has that changed now?

But overall, will this system do well on BF4, Skyrim (modded) etc? Did I do an alright job?

You did great, althought the 4770k is kinda a waste, its great. Same with the ram if your gaming.

You should download the latest drivers from the website.

Looks like a good build. I don't see it as a waste as you don't know what the future will hold and having the system like that now will mean less chance of having to upgrade down the line.

Plus more RAM is always useful especially if you use Chrome ;)

By the way, surely the latest drivers won't make much of a difference? I simply installed the chipset, this "Intel HD" thing, and whatever else was available, apart from Live Update 5, as I have heard bad things about it.

Am I doing it right or have I completely forgotten something?

Thing you want to do:

1. Update your drivers, Do this quickly.  You should only install your LAN driver from the disk, then grab the other drivers from the motherboard website and get the latest.

2. Update your BIOS, Dont grab a beta bios, but grab a stable one and update your BIOS.  This ensures the latest compatibility, stability and functionality for your motherboard.

3. Set your XMP profile in the BIOS.

4. Yes, you do set the prority back to the SSD.  If the highest priority is on Windows Boot Manager, leave it because thats what you want.

Also, it will do just fine in games in fact great.  Should have no problem playing bf4 and stuff no probs. :)

I'm also assuming you have a Samsung 840 EVO.  I recommend downloading the software and setting up over provisinising, I recommend setting the mode on Maximum performance and in advanced set Hibernation Mode disabled.

And the latest drivers for your chip set wont make a huge difference but it might in the way of stability and compatibility, your graphics drivers will make a performance improvement though.  If your using a discrete graphics card I dont think you need the Intel HD graphics driver.

Now go and play some games! :D
