The maximum supported/tested by Lenovo is indeed 12 GB, but you may actually be able to use a 16 or even a 32 GB module for upgrading, at least according to some vendors: https://www.compuram.biz/memory/lenovo/notebook/essential/v-series/v14-ada/

While single channel can lower performance in some scenarios, as @starsmine pointed out, running out of RAM will definitely ruin your performance. So if your use case requires more RAM than you have right now, there's no real alternative to adding more.

So my laptop has 8 gigs of ram, 2 taken by the IGPU.

But recently I see myself working on more demanding projects, my laptop's ram maximum capacity is 12 GB,

I have 4 GB soldered and 4 regular ram.

And I have read everywhere that you shouldn't unbalance your ram( example: 8GB + 4GB) it will ruin performance.

This hassle is an everyday annoyance but not one that would cause me to buy another computer seeing that mine is fairly new.

Is there any method to upgrading my ram without ruining the performance?

Model number: Lenovo V14-ADA

It'll only "ruin" performance in apps that are sensitive to memory bandwidth. If you mix 8+4 then only 4+4 of that will run in dual channel, the remaining RAM will run at single channel speed. Otherwise, it'll work fine.

What model of laptop do you have? People won't be able to recommend alternatives, if you don't provide the details.
