PC specs

Asus tuf gaming z790 plus wifi

2x16 ram sticks dual channel Teamgroup Tforce Delta ddr5 @ 4800 xmp 5600mhz

Intel core i9 13900k

Evga 3080ti ftw3 ultra

I recently built a new PC everything was working fine . After a week after I turned on my PC was only on YouTube.  I decided to restart it because wanted to check something in the bios .so I pressed delete key few times. Screen turned black waited 5 mins or so . I held the power switch to force it to turn it off. After I pressed it again to turn it back on. It booted normally. I checked something on the task manager and I realized that it said 1 out of 4 dimms and it only detected 16 GB of ram. So I restarted to go to the bios and it showed both stick in dual channel but one of them said 0mb while the other one says 16460 ( cant remember the exact number ) so I turned it off and started doing troubleshooting with one ram stick on each slot. I installed one stick onto slots ( did not try dimm A1 due to the AIO pipes on the way) tired every other slot and it booted on dimm A2 also booted on Dimm B2 Dimm B1 booted to bios with each slot and after exiting bios would go to OS although dimm B1 booted . After exiting bios it would loop. And led stays on orange which indicates ram. Tried the same with the other ram had no luck. Didnt boot on any of the slots ( the one that detected as a 0mb in the bios when I had them both populated) I also reseated CPU re mounted aio and tried the same process and same. I also have the most recent bios version as all the drivers from Intel and the motherboard installed. What do you guys think the issue could be? Is that one ram stick dead ? . I appreciate your help ❤

Hi and welcome, 🙂

Have you tried running it with XMP off? I think your other stick of RAM is dead. RAM fails a lot in computers and stops working but it can be replaced. When hardware doesn't show properly in the bios there is a definite problem with it.

You could try a BIOS RESET. Sometimes that can solve problems. Pull the CMOS battery out.

Bit of a tech guy, converted to PC's when consoles did not entertain me enough, the last console being an Xbox, was fun with Halo multi-play though. But  the want to discover, to test, to learn more about computers drove me to levels I had never known...

Some GPU's I have had, 8800GTS 384MB, 7800GT, GEFORCE 4 MX440, 250GTS,  770 GTX, 1650 GTX, RTX 3050 Plus many other GPU's over the years...

The respect I have for LMG is massive like a black hole, sucking in all the knowledge, I watch their awesome video's, their knowledge is like that of a God. Seriously some say they are number 1 in the whole wide world. LMG is like the INTEL fabrication plant. Beaming with technology goodness...

Put them in the 2nd and 4th slot try 1 at a time both in each 1 at a time are they the same brand and model?

This 100% means the RAM stick itself is dead. You will need to RMA it and get a replacement.

What caused it to die is anyone's guess. It could be a manufacturing defect and it would've died no matter what, it could've had a BIOS bug that set one of the memory voltages insanely high (though the vast majority of DDR5 is pretty voltage resistant, so I doubt this), or it could've had some other issue that I can't think of.

The issue of the board getting stuck on memory training with the working stick is likely fastboot being broken, because fastboot is usually broken. Disable fastboot in the BIOS and it should start working again, albeit at the expense of some boot times.

Oh ok yes indeed I contactes teamgroup and they sent me the order to send it back. Although I forgot to mention that. That ram wasnt in the qvl. Idk if this really matters but I have bought another set on Amazon and I also have checked that thos one is qvl ddr5 g skill. I was so worried about this issue but this makes me feel more calmed. Thank you so much for your time and replying 🤗

Yes I tried one at once. It booted with only one of them. While the other one did not boot on any slot

Helloo thank you!!!. And yes I did try without xmp also cleared cmos and that one ram individually wouldn't post . Only with the other one in all the channels . I also have the latest version of bios along with the Intel firmware and all the corresponding drivers

Buy a 5600c32 minimum but prefferably 5600c30 or 6000c32 for futureproofed rams you bring over to the next build and overclock

It being on the QVL or not is not likely to be the problem here, it really sounds like the stick just up and died. It can happen.

I have anote question. Sorry to bother so much. Once I get the new kit before installing the sticks . Should I clear the CMOS? Since atm I have no ram installed because i sent them back today. And i left it with xmp enabled i believe.

It shouldn't be necessary, most boards I've used will automatically clear CMOS once new memory is detected. That said, it shouldn't hurt anything to do so, so if you want to clear CMOS it's not a bad idea.
