Cpu comparability

I have Sony Viao VGN-NR10E  with Intel Pentium T2310. I have ordered Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 as a upgrade and after installing the laptop doesn't want to boot into bios. I think it could be a dead cpu, but perhaps compatibility issue as well. They both have same ''socket P'' socket.

Is it possible to change the bios?
