RM850e - Weird noises

B1ueTera

Hi.
So i bought the RM850e yesterday and got it today. And i installed it and then i turn it on. And it makes weird clank like noise. And fan is on 100% after like 1 min. I wouldn't really recommend it. So i am gonna send it back and thought about maybe. Getting the RM850x (2021) or the shift version. What would be best with or without swift. Swift has ATX 3.0 thingy and PCI-e 5.0 ready. And the normal RMx does not. So idk what i should get one is been tested for years and one is new.
The Swift 20Euros/22Dollars more.

Thats unfortunate.  I have used multiple ( 10+ ) RM750i's and 850x's in builds without issues. I swear by them, I will never switch.   The SHIFT has the cable connections on the side unlike other PSU's.  If you get the SHIFT make sure you got enough space for cables near the back panel.

Hmm, could just be a bad unit that made it past QC, I've used the RMXs for years and never really had a problem myself, have had a couple people get DOA units that have come into my shop with them. I've used several of the new RMe series and all of them have been great. I've used the RM850e three times, and the RM1000e twice. No issues. Sometimes though Corsairs QC can be lacking. I'd just get a replacement, if you want to try it again. Otherwise the RM850X isn't a bad choice at all.
