New RTX 4070ti Low Usage (20-30%)

Your immediate problem may be more complicated than just a cpu bottleneck, but

There is definitely a HUGE cpu bottleneck. I recommend at LEAST a 12400 or 5600x, optimally a 13600k or 7600x or better to handle the 4070ti.

Here's a video showing the huge performance difference between the 13600k and the 10400 with a 3090ti

Specs:

MSI 4070ti ventus

Intel i5-10400 (Should not be that big of a bottleneck)

PSU: Corsair 750w

I was installing a new GPU for my brother and out of the box the GPU usage was very low, getting lackluster preformance.

GPU usage is around 20-30% in all games

Thanks

What did you upgrade from? Did you do a DDU before installing the Nvidia drivers?

My brother upgraded from a Radeon RX 580.

I am try to do the DDU right now and then do another clean install

I will keep you posted

10400 isnt the best fit for that GPU. Depending on your resolution and such. That CPU has a max boost of 4.3 Ghz, thats gonna be a pretty big hamper on your GPU.

Ya but that still shouldnot be putting that hudge of a usage gap. It is only a couple years old

Terrible pairing unless if playing on 4K.

The i5 10400 is an i7 8700, comparable to a Ryzen 5 3600X. A low end CPU a few generations old.

The 4070Ti is a 3090 range card, a card meant for 1440p and 4K gaming, and it's nVidia so it requires a stronger CPU than a Radeon of the same performance does (larger driver overhead, way easier to bottleneck).

Solutions - either a 4K screen or a platform upgrade + a 1440p monitor.

Update:

I think that this might be a  CPU bottleneck. But the CPU is only being used at around 5%

Thanks for the information I will probably get a  13 or 14 gen intel in the future. I would have never thought that a bottleneck would be that large.

Ultimately I found out that I was able to get the GPU usage up to a better number around 60-70% when playing with ray tracing and at max settings.

But it stayed lower when playing commpetive titles at lower graphics settings.

Yeah you might as well turn everything up, but ray tracing can be hard on the cpu as well.

You will have to play with it.

Enjoy
