I got the authorization to buy a new computer for a user at work that mostly does quickbooks because it doesnt work on the terminals and they were using one from 2005.

it was pretty disappointing to see zero prebuilts with 13th gen and a bit of a struggle to find anything cheap with 11 pro. The absolute cheapest being the 12100 based HP and the cost of 11 pro so like 650.
So I literally told them is 550 good and they said sure do whatever you think is best.

I think this is best so I present the "its cheaper than a prebuilt"

I am already cheating because I have a nvme laying around, but aside from that, r8?

If you are just using this for work stuff like office, quickbooks, web, or basic VMs literally anything made in the last decade equipped with an SSD will be lightning fast.  The new stuff is really only beneficial for gaming, video editing, 3D modeling, or machine learning.  You could get a Haswell or skylake i5 system for $50 on craigslist or at a suprplus sale, put an SSD in it, and you'd be good to go.  All that stuff would run at the speed of a click.

Or if it has to be new just get the cheapest tower with at least 4 cores and a port for your NVMe (though most of them already comes with SSDs anyway).  No need for 13th gen.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

Why not just a ryzen 5600g build? It's cheap and decent can even just get a asrock deskmini and put the stuff in there.

The build you made is well not great as the case is a airflowless box, the psu is pretty crap and the ram is just awful.

For a company id really just get a prebuilt. Plenty of stuff around that is fast enough. If you want to semi diy a nuc or a asrock deskmini is a great option.

The PSU is Tier F Replace Immediately on https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/.

Local storage should be at least 500GB.

The case needs an additional fan to establish reasonable airflow.

Surprised to see a Windows 11 license. Does the company not have a useable license?

CPU stock DDR4 speed is 3200.

With B660 (or B610) the BIOS version should be verified before purchase to insure compatibility with Raptor Lake CPU.

pretty awful list as everyone here has said, 13100 is basically a more expensive 12100 and that power supply is a bomb, ram is overpriced trash, you should be using a 5600g instead, etc.

This is much better.
Companies should get prebuilts though.

cant use newegg so that build would cost alot more.
also, half of this is no-name brand stuff, like wtf is a teamgroup.
I have a 512GB 970 evo already I will drop in it, like actual reliable storage, not off brand dataloss on a stick.

That psu is not available with prime on amazon.

Unfortunately, it was the best choice of all psus shipped and sold by amazon for less than $55usd.

I specifically went with the more expensive motherboard because that one is shipped and sold by a third party seller I have not had good luck with in the past.

Even barring that, buying third party means I wont be able to return it if the bios is too old, or a number of other reasons.

The ram is slow I know but its at least reliable, and can anyone here give a compelling argument why 2400mt/s ddr4 is le bad and then suggest some 10 year old pc that has probably ddr3 1600. Like its not gaming, why does ram speed matter.
the alternative was these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WDN5VNR but it looked sus and wasnt sold by amazon.

Basing purchase decisions solely on brand name recognition only guarantees higher costs.

You could save people a lot of wasted time if you mentioned merchant restrictions and preferences in the OP.

A PSU can kill every other electrical component in the system. Ending up with a very low quality PSU in favor of a particular motherboard seller strikes me as poor prioritization.

How do you know it is more reliable than other memory choices? There are only a few companies that make the actual memory chips used in most consumer memory kits.

The choice to use only 8GB of slow, higher latency memory needlessly impaires system performance. Did you check the system requirements for the version of QuickBooks being used? I ask because the current version desktop requirements recommend 16GB of workstation memory.

TeamGroup has been around for a very long time making SSDs and Ram. they're far from no name. They target a budget audience, like you and make generally good products for that target audience.

The above quote and this tells me you don't do much research about brands. Once again, a budget line from a more budget minded company.

You don't have to pay Samsung prices to get Samsung quality.

Price to performance. 2400 MT/s is slow. With the older prebuilt you are getting a large portion of a computer for the price of slow ram. You can build a sub $400 computer with a 5600g and 16 gb 3600 mhz ram. There's no reason to go with 2400 MT/s.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.
