Budget (including currency):  DKK 5000

Country: Denmark

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming FPS @1440P

I need to upgrade my PC. I'v got an RTX3080 which I'm keeping. I also got 32GB DDR4 3200mhz ram which I could keep.

Out is my Asus B450-e Gaming motherboared and the AMD Ryzen 5 2600x CPU.

I don't stream or render videos. PC is for browsing and gaming.

I usually upgrade MB, CPU & Ram on a different cycle from GPU. So I'm NOT looking for something "upgradeable" along the way.

So, do I go for Intel 12/13th gen or Ryzen 5000/7000? I prefer Intel over AMD.

Have you recently been in the same situation and what did you choose? Or are you just reallly updated on which is the best choice for me with my use case?

PC: Corsair Obsidian 750D. Asus Z77 Sabertooth. Intel Core i5 3570K. 8gb Corsair vengeance 1866mhz. Asus GTX 780 Direct CU II OC. Asus Xonar DGX 5.1. Sandisk Extreme 120gb SSD. 2 x Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB HD. Asus DVD drive. Corsair TX 650w PSU

5800X3D might be a drop-in upgrade worth getting, that would let you keep the ram and (potentially) the motherboard.

otherwise i'm more inclined to suggest just waiting it out a year or so for the next generation of DDR5 stuff, and then do your usual platform upgrade.

having that said.. why are you upgrading? is there a particular case where your current CPU isnt sufficing? is there something bugging you about the motherboard? etc?.

I'm playing MW II and only get around 60FPS. Thinking that the CPU is the bottleneck

Just get the 5800X3D... there is no point in going Intel and having to swap the entire platform.

I get over 150FPS in Warzone 2 with this CPU (I have RTX 3060ti at 1440p so I am GPU bound, the CPU can certainly push higher FPS).

don't forget to update the BIOS before you swap the CPUs

Im inclined to agreed (and of course thats besides the issue of Ryzen 5 2600 IPC) but direct observation triumphs everything. Check your GPU-CPU usage during loads in MW2 through either RTSS or just from opening MSI afterburner performance graphs on your 2nd monitor.
