Super slow download speed in browser

Using Opera (not GX I think)

And my download speed in the browser is around 1.8 - 2.5 Mb/s.

Meanwhile on Steam my download speed is over 30 Mb/s.

I don't know what is wrong and I can't find any setting to change to increase it.

It's not my connection clearly so it has to be a limitation in the browser itself.

try other browsers, see if they're download speeds are better or worse. Also are you observing this while downloading something else?

Whats the source here? Not every CDN is built to game launchers standard, i have a solid 8 megaBYTE per second on Steam but TechPowerUp downloads would be 1 megaBIT on some of its servers.

Sometimes you're more limited by the source's servers than your ISP. I have hardlined 1Gb/sec to my gaming PC and the variation in download speeds between sources can be drastic. Some I get nearly 100MB/sec download from and other seem hard capped at 12MB/sec, its possible even from a site like techpowerup that they're throttling the bandwidth, so its always recommended to test multiple sources.

Nvidia or Radeon drivers being great sources to test that in a browser. Those should always get pretty thick download speeds and are large enough in size to be a good sample, even though I download them neigh instantly with my network.

50/50. Not every webadmin have the best intent and the biggest pocket, and not every user have the most pristine internet infrastructure and conforming ISP, thats why everyone in this thread is saying to eliminate the server as possible part of the issue by trying to download similarly large files on other sites, with graphics card driver like @Agall mentioned being a pretty good test. Its benign, safely sourced (unless something very fucked just happened and the servers are compromised) and its sufficiently big enough for the downloads to rev up. Other good ones are OS images, either Microsoft with Windows, or Linux, usually either Ubuntu or Raspbian.
