Budget (including currency): $1200NZD/AUD approx

Country: NZ but will probably order from Amazon AU

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: PC to run my TV

Other details:

So I currently use an old 2011 Macbook Air that I had lying around with Windows on it to make my dumb tv "Smart" and then use a Logitech k400 which is great as a couch keyboard given the built in trackpad.

That said the Macbook is obviously getting a little old and struggles with 1080p content (sometimes it even struggles with 720p60fps content) and can't game at all.

Looking at doing a small form factor affordable build (as it's not my primary rig) to fit in the entertainment cabinet underneath my TV which has a space of 365mm wide x 300mm high x 360mm deep (14.37in wide x 11.8in wide x 14.17in deep).

I can drill out the back so that the cables can poke out behind the cabinet a bit if need be / the case only just fits in depth wise.

It just has to be able to play back 4k content on my TV for movies/tv shows (both streamed and local files) and do some light gaming. i.e Rocket League with a controller on the couch, and Doritos in hand. 😉

The whole thing will be hidden inside the cupboard with ventilation holes drilled out the back so the case doesn't need to look good but would like it to have scope to upgrade in future.

So, with this in mind I've come up with the following to hit that budget more or less.

I'm not super experienced in building PCs so a) have I missed anything? and b) have I chosen anything stupid? 😉

Thermaltake Core V1 Mini ITX Case

AMD Ryzen 5 5600

ASRock A520M-ITX/AC

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16

Kingston - NV2 M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 2TB, Solid State Drive

Radeon RX 580 Graphic Card

Thermaltake Toughpower GX1 RGB 700W 80+ Gold PSU

Buying a cheap ivy, haswell, maybe even skylake prebuilt and sticking a gpu in it will save you a decent amount of $

Also you should not be buying a new 580, used 580 are alot cheaper, though you may get a used 5700(xt) or 6600(xt) instead which will be quite abit better than a 580 (gtx 1080 levels of performance)
