what matters a lot is the perspective of the face, you don't want to have conflicting angles of view or it will look like a picasso.

This is a good start when you want to make an outline for your face, you just change based on were the face is intended to.. well face.

You can always break out the ruler if you have a reference work, I did that with mine and the amount of time I had would determine how many measurements and plots I would make. I never bothered with the guideline nonsense for drawing faces.

If you spend a lot of time measuring a reference alone, you can get a pretty decent near mirror of the face. The only difficult part is getting the skull shape right.

Don't worry, you aren't missing much. It was a horribly drawn image that I made when I was 11 and still reappears in my nightmares. It reminds me of the doodle-bob sponge-bob episode. It (my drawing) is actually ravishingly ugly.

well that can be true depends on the persons head size if they have a larger forehead the eyes will appear lower

Forehead size is determined by hairline. You draw the hair after you draw the head. But yeah, it'd appear lower.

I'm not artist so correct me if I'm wrong.

A book I read on drawing says that you should always start with guidelines. Similar to the images posted earlier, you need to establish a rough sketch of the face. Obviously everyone's faces have a nose, eyes, etc., and as far as I know they're on only one location. In a rough sketch you need to point out the most important parts, esp. how you'll orientate the face. You have to draw softly as well because if you mess up, it'll be a lot harder to erase bolder marks than lighter marks. You cannot add in details until you are confident everything is where it should be. You can also point out distinct features on the face as well so you add them later.

No, you're spot on. Both your tips have been very good, and a great beginners tip guide.

One thing most people execute incorrectly are the eyes. Whether they are executed incorrectly due to placement or size. They are 80% of the difference of whether it ends up looking human, or LinuSlick-specied. I believe they're called Linusapiens. Or maybe Slickanderthals..? Can't quite remember.

But yeah, focus on the eyes. They are almost exactly in the center. Use the guideline that @_ASSASSIN_ provided, and you'll be okay.

Well, proportions-wise, the eyes are mid-way down the face. Between the eyes, you can fit another "eye" and fit one "eye" on each side of the face. The top of the ear would usually be parallel to the eyebrows while where it meets the skin, it'll be parallel to where the eyelids meet. The bottom of the ear would also be parallel to the bottom of the nose. Noses are usually about 3/4's down the face; where the eyes are, the other half of the face should be divided in half for the nose. The mouth would also be halfway between the end of the nose and the chin.

Also, you could look up tutorials on Youtube for stuff like this.

Also, treat the parts of the face as just shapes e.g. eyes are ovals, noses are triangles, mouths are flat diamonds, etc. Guidelines like stuff you'll see comic book artists help as well to give a perspective of the face.
