i have been looking at different ssd's and needed some help deciding i have heard that the intel 730 series lasts a really long time while still keeping up performance and the neutron gtx is supposed to be really fast and my friend keeps telling me to get an 840 evo.

I really like the Crucial M500 and m4

my M4 has lasted about 2.5 years, and my M500 for about a year...

With SSD's you get what you pay for, a cheaper SSD will have cheaper flash and therefore not last as long (they still will be but-tons more reliable than an HDD and most likely your system will not outlast the lifetime of your SSD) while possibly lagging on speeds from a higher end one. Personally I just go to PCPartPicker.com and list the SSD's from a Price/GB list and choose from there.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

I just got a 840 EVO and I got up to 750MB/s Reads & 500MB/s Writes. Windows finishes loading before I start counting, and games load fast as all hell.

So I guess I should vouch for it, not that I've had either of those other two you've mentioned. I have had two OCZ Vertex SSDs, however, and they both crashed on me after less than six months so.. I wouldn't recommend them.

EDIT: Benchmark results from Samsung Magician. And it also tells me they could be better if I booted in AHCI mode...

What application are you planning to place your drive into?

The Intel 730 series is great for durability being able to have heavy reads and write on but uses more power and outputs more heat than most SSD currently. The samsung EVO is currently the best price to performance drive giving high speeds and great amount of storage for low cost, it's durability is very good also but lacks a little bit behind the samsung 840 prro

I like my 840 EVO. Even though it's bottlenecked like crazy, it's still a ton faster than my old HDD.

Realistically any name brand SSD will be fine.

But I have been pretty happy with all 9 of my Samsung and Corsair SSD's. Intel and Crucial are great too.

CORSAIR RIPPER: AMD 3970X - 3080TI & 2080TI - 64GB Ram - 2.5TB NVME SSD's - 35" G-Sync 120hz 1440P
MFB (Mining/Folding/Boinc): AMD 1600 - 3080 & 1080Ti - 16GB Ram - 240GB SSD
Dell OPTIPLEX:  Intel i5 6500 - 8GB Ram - 256GB SSD

The 840 EVO is a good choice. SSDs are all so fast it's almost impossible to tell the difference between any of them, so speed differences are really only just on paper. The same with the longevity; some may last longer than others on paper but the lifetime of any SSD is enormous to begin with.

I'd go for intel for long term reliability and i heard some are factory overclocked. 840 evo is a bit more faster,

so the choice comes down to only one thing, itdepends on your appeal to it (ssd shell design)

Best of the best: Samsung 840 Pro or Intel 730 or 520.

Anything from Samsung Evo, Intel 335, Crucial M500, Adata or Toshiba will do. Been using a Intel 335 for years with zero issues.

One does not simply put Intel 520 to the best of the best

You really can't go wrong with any brand of SSD. My preferences lie with Samsung though. I've had two 830's and one 840. Not a single hiccup or problem.

Nothing with sandforce was ever reliable  or fast.
