Iphone 5S screen not working

I need to pull data off my grandma's old iphone 5S but the screen is not turning on. It does get messages but the screen is not turning on.
Can anyone help me??

Potentially the screen is broken or the baclight is. Use a strong flashlight in a dark room to see if its working

 

Another silly thing you can do is see if the touch works by getting into the iphone and listening if it reacts to touches

I held the strongest flashlight i own right next to the iphone and it did nothing.

Touch does work and i was able to make a iTunes backup of the phone.
