I'm not sure what CPU to go with.

At my microcenter I can get a 7900x with motherboard and ram for 600, or I could get a 13700k and mb and ram for 650, I don't mind either price I just want to know which CPU is better for gaming cause I swear there's no real definitive answer. Not that I have found, atleast. Running 1440p with a 4080 gpu.

CPU - Ryzen 9 7900x

Motherboard - ASUS B650E-F ROG STRIX GAMING WIFI AMD AM5 ATX Motherboard
RAM - G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000
GPU - Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080

Did you consider the AMD 3D "stuff" ?

I'm willing to swim against the current.

Honestly, it will depend on the game you're playing. Some games use multiple CPU threads, and others use a single CPU thread. They both exchange blows. I'd go with AMD as you'll be able to use the motherboard for 6+ years unlike Intel.

Both will be just fine for gaming. Typically x900 CPUs from AMD tend to be overlooked due to their price and core configuration of 12C compared to 8C and 16C in terms of value. AM5 still has teething issues with XMP & EXPO it appears.

For longevity and price per performance i'd go with AMD, 7900X with mb and ram for 600 seems like a really good price.

Specs: Ryzen 7 5700G w/ Wraith Prism(locked at 4.2 ghz)

32 GB(4x8) Kingston HyperX Predator 3200 MHZ CL 16 RAM

Asus Prime B550M-A Wi-Fi

3 SSD(250 nVME+480+250)

Cooler Master H500 w/ 750W +80 Bronze PSU

MSI GTX 670 Jurassic Park edition(i don't know the model name it is just as old as a dinosaur)
