Advice regarding a dual 4080 setup

What I've done in the past is to bend the posts of the power switch header but you have to be careful. This will likely only work if you have the connectors as separate pin connectors rather than a dual and you need to do it slowly so the pins don't snap at the motherboard.

 

But first I would try connecting the cables and flattening the cables down and perhaps putting a strip of electrical tape over top to prevent them from getting cut by the fins on the GPU cooler.

 

While a 5-slot spacing board would solve the "breathing" issue with the upper card it would make the cable issues worse and the lower card would be up against the PS shroud

Yeah I think bending pins is probably the best way, I wonder if you could even maybe cut a couple mm of each of them and then the individual connectors and make them sit further in

that might work. Likely easiest to remove the plastic from the header then slide some short pieces of shrink-wrap tubing over the cables, insert the connectors then slide down the heat-shrink and shrink it in place.

 

Another option is to buy an inexpensive wire-wrapping tool, wrap a 26ga wire around the post, strip the other end, fold it over and jam it into the connector and repeat. (I had no idea wire-wrapping tools were so expensive these days)

Yeah like you could cut 2mm off of both the header pins and the connectors and it should bring them in

I just measured the clearance from the last slot on my motherboard to the top of PSU shroud in the meshify 2 XL and it only comes to 50mm so I don't even think the 4 slot mobos would work

In the 4-slot motherboards (b650 Aorus Elite & b650e Aorus Master) the 2nd x16 slot is the second last slot (Slot6)

OK so from calculations working out the scale of the board from the online images. I think that comes to about 69.5mm gap between 1st and 2nd slot. And then from that second slot to the top of the psu shroud there is about 70mm of clearance, so which gpu is getting suffocated hahaha

Sigh. I had similar problems on x570 and ended up having to use a Define S2 as it doesn't have a shroud which gave me just enough clearance to install a 3-slot 3080 GPU in the lower x16 slot with a 2-slot 2070 Super Hybrid in the upper slot (with 3-slot spacing)

Yeah I was hoping to just keep it in 1 case, I want it as discrete as it possibly can be. This is maybe looking like a watercool project. Although I've never done it before

You could definitely get 4080s down to 1 slot-width - assuming you can get blocks for them.
