Budget (including currency): 900 New Zealand Dollars (557.17 USD)

Country: New Zealand

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: File Storage and Plex Server

Other details: Hoping to use a server that can: Store Backups of my main PC, Run a small Jellyfin Server, Run a large-ish file server. I already have 2 1tb drives, I would prefer there to be no shipping because import fees are insane from Amazon or New Egg to New Zealand and I would like to use and the Jonsbo N1 case. Cheers for any Tips!

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm working on budget NAS too,so i can only share some of my choice:

CPU: E3-1230V2

Motherboard: any B75

GPU: Intel DG1

Memory: 8G DDR3 Memory

PowerSupply: Flex server power supply(second-handed)

it may be very cheap, but i didn't now very much on marketprice in your region. and Intel DG1 is only for video decode hadeware accleartion(choosing this is specific for HEVC 10bit 4:2:2  format video, both nvidia and amd doesn't support this.) If you don't need hardware accelration, you won't need a GPU, or you can choose something more cheap GPU from nvidia. it could support major video format hardware accelration.

in a hurry can some one explain this parts list for me???

you only have a i3,with no GPU,but using a 650W powersupply? just, why?

and you didn't mention what is your target workflow, so i can't give you a comment on it.

so? this i3 30% is faster than that Xeon you selected.

its a flipping NAS!!!! there is no need for a better GPU. this has everything except AV 1 encode (it does have AV1 decode)

why not? i really don't understand what bone you have to pick with this power supply. its not a fire hazard and has plenty of power for the components.

we are replying to @zandiebear but you building a NAS is also helpful for you.

well, i'm not have question with the CPU your select, i mention that i3 and no GPU because don't undersand why you choosing a 650W powersupply. this CPU's TDP is under 100W, and considering other components, 300W is really enough. but you are right, fire hazard really a problem we need to pay attetion. i' ll keep it in mind
