Is it possible to boot from a sata drive even with a m.w-2280 drive connected? Is it possible to set u in bios? Can the boot drive be a windows drive just carried over?

using i7-110700k and asrock z490 phantom gaming mobo

yes. if only one drive has windows installed you shouldn't even need to change any settings. You can just swap the drive into a new system, but sometimes due to drivers it isnt the best experience, but it will work 99% of the time id say.

this is the exact situation i will face in the next few weeks. I'm upgrading my pc and i 'm going to reuse the Samsung 860 Evo Sata i have now in my current system. The fact is that my new motherboard ( Asus Prime B760 M-A D4) has two M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots and it wouldn't be a good idea not using that. I also have a mechanical HDD for archive and i don't know what to do with it ( it is 10 years old, but it is good).
