yeah i do have 8 gigs and i noticed now after a few days that its very moody sometimes usage doesnt cross 30% and sometimes it boots up with 80% + usage im confused

It's a problem with Windows 8. I had it showing 99% usage for the longest time even when there was maybe 1.5 gigs of stuff up.

I made a thread a few weeks ago, I am still having this problem too, sometimes in task manager it says I am using like 2gb of ram as a user, but somehow im using 90% of my 8gb sat at the desktop

might do a full windows reinstall

I was wondering this

My windows 7 laptop shows completely different ram usage to my 8.1 desktop

how did you go with ur reinstall?

just a quick calculator adding everything open there amounts to 544 MB +- ......

you sure you got 8 gigs... open up performance manager

or add peak memory usage under columns

Look at all those processes. They are less than 100 and the one using the most ram is chrome with 77 mb. The number drops very quickly to about 3 mb. Suppose the average was 10 mb (and it's less) and the processes 100 (and they are less), you would still be using less than 1gb. Assuming the ram was installed correctly and you're on a 64bit system (you are right?), there is no way you could actually be using 80%+ memory.

Conclusion: your task manager bugged out, my dear Watson.

hahaha i guess your right mr. shelock

It's not a bad thing. RAM not being used isn't doing anything. Windows 8 has Superfetch, which fills your RAM with potentially useful applications so that its faster. You can disable it, see here. http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/disable-superfetch-windows-8/

Try it and see if it makes a difference.

But remember, RAM sitting empty literally is doing you no good. It can clear nearly instantly if you need it, and it's setup so that if you need that RAM, it clears and you can use it.

yeah but sometimes it actually lags my games when i try to play and i know its because of the ram because everything runs sooooo slow :/

Other than I was running Windows 8, no cause found. Or solution. Sometimes just restarting it would work but it would still end up showing a rediculously high memory usage from time to time.

i noticed too that restarting helps but it just feels my computer is soooo moody

Yeah my pc did it again yesterday, it went up to 99% and my pc starts stuttering/audio issues etc etc

If i start closing programs the ram usage stays the same, even if I have nothing open it just seems to be really high. Task manager says I am using like 1gb and yet 8gb is being used. This seems intermittent, right now iwth 2 chrome pages open and a few background things (spotify, razer comms etc) it is sitting at 34%

Chrome always has multiple process entries. Chrome seems perfectly normal.

Have you performed a memory test?

Have you installed a 32 or 64 bit version of windows? 32 bit can only access 4GB of ram.
