Don't bother wasting money on it.

Even the best cpu possible is a potato.

For 50$ you can get a better used dell than that system can ever be. It would most likely have a i5 2400 but not a single cpu on the socket your system has comes even close to that and that i5 isn't something you'd even want today.

It's a scrap pc with no real use left.

i mean.. you could put somre core2quad in it, but really.. for the price of getting one of those CPU's delivered to your door you can get a newer optiplex with something haswell delivered to your door.

You've pretty much got your pick of the Core 2 line. You might have to update the BIOS, but they're all available on Dell's support site after you enter the service tag.

Unless you're building an XP machine though, don't bother.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

And thats not accounting for the resale value on that 755 since even with a trash cpu they should still sell for atleast 10$

A drop in upgrade would be a q6600, all you gotta do is 333 bsel mod for 3ghz, 65nm kinda garbage at clocking and needs lots of volt so wouldnt reccomend pushing higher for the sake of the board vrms and also cpu cooling even if max safe vcore is somewhere around 1.65v

45nm quads would be better but at the prices they go for lga 1156 will just obliterate them for the same price, doesnt even need good rams to clock high either, just a decent board capable of 220+ bclk (gigabyte seems pretty decent looking at the h55m ud2h, some maniacs pushed it to 320bclk), x3430 or even an x3440 + cheap h55/p55 is the same price youd pay for a 45nm quad + half decent p35/p45 not to mention decent rams, but you get ddr3 and you dont need to buy fast ddr3 either (most ics will still do 2000+ anyways), and high speed 2gb ddr2 sticks are hard to come by and most of the info on ddr2 ics is just gone or stupidly hard to find
