Shouldn't I get 120hz and HDR in my Samsung Q90A (secondary display)?

davidrf

Hi there,

I connected a 50" Samsung Q90A as secondary display on my PC with a HDMI cable certified 8k 120hz HDR. I get 60hz of refresh instead of the native 120hz and NO HDR at all with a KableID cable. Is there something else other than the cable that could be the problem? Or the cable does not just do what it says? Thanks!

Hey, are you still using your 1080? If so, it might only support HDMI 2.0, limiting it to 4k 60hz. A solution to this could be a displayport 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter.

I'm still using the 1080. Damn, I was sure it was 2.1.

That was added with Ampere, so 3000 series.

Theoretically you could use an ACTIVE adapter like this, however this would require the 1080 to support Display Stream Compression 1.2 which I cannot guarantee it does. Its an optional component of the DisplayPort 1.4 spec but not always included in every product.

Your card may have a firmware update to support the latest DP specs. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4674/~/graphics-firmware-update-for-displayport-1.3-and-1.4-displays

Thanks a lot but I'll wait. I'm buying a 3080 in the next weeks, so the issue will be solved with that!
