Using a gaming PC for home office consumes a ton more energy than using a laptop, but how much?. (Comparison Article)

But I also feel like it's $70 a year, which is borderline meaningless to me (and I am NOT a wealthy man). Certainly not enough to change my habits over, or inconvenience myself in any way (assuming there was an inconvenience).

$50 can be a significant amount for people in other parts of the world: While $50 a year may seem like a small amount to some people, it can be a significant sum for those living in developing countries or facing financial hardship. In many parts of the world, $50 could be the difference between being able to afford basic necessities or not. It's important to consider that not everyone has the same financial resources and priorities as others.

Criticizing someone like Jeff Bezos on how they spend their money with that mindset is not fair. You have no right to say anyone else is at fault for such and such because you are exactly the problem.

The world would be a better place without that mindset. If we all adopted the mindset that saving $50 a year is meaningless and not worth inconveniencing ourselves for, we would be contributing to a culture of wastefulness and excess. This kind of thinking is unsustainable and contributes to a variety of problems, including environmental degradation, resource depletion, and income inequality. Instead, we should strive to be mindful of our spending habits and look for ways to reduce waste and conserve resources. By doing so, we can create a more sustainable and equitable world for everyone.

Your comment was absolutely disgusting and i hope you didn't really mean it.

What about those of us that work in industries that gather resources. Using less resources doesn’t make a more equitable world for us.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

This is something that i am acutely aware of, i live 100% on solar+batter power, no grid power whatsoever so when my gaming PC (7700+GTX 1080 with a 27 inch Asus monitor) pulls 100 watts while I'm just watching YouTube or talking shit on Reddit, if it's super cloudy i'll swap over to my Surface Laptop that only pulls 20 watts or so while doing the same tasks.

Except in the context of this thread, I doubt someone that could afford the aforementioned high end gaming pc would fit into the above

...what the fuck are you on about?

"there are people worse off than you, so you should use a lower powered computer so you can donate the extra money you save on power to them"

Is that what you're arguing out of literally nowhere?

Without gold mines you wouldn’t have these forums to say the things you are.
We have a saying “if it can’t be farmed, it must be mined.”
If you’re going to take the righteous path, you might want to think about every path that leads into it.
If I donate money, it’s going to be sent electronically somewhere in the chain. You know what’s needed to make that happen? Gold.

If you want to know what sacrifices are made so you can have your electronics we can get into them.

Everything standard, no OC, no under voltage.

The test is:

  3. 10 runs of Shadow of the Tom Raider Benchmark at 1440p, high details

Yeah I know this test doesn't simulate an "office usage" at all

You're really overreacting here. It's not like I was advocating lighting cigars with flaming dollar bills. I specifically said that the amount of money in question wasn't enough to justify changing your habit to the point of potentially inconveniencing yourself. i.e. your time and lack of frustration is worth something. We work hard for our money, and can buy the right tool for the job, even if it perhaps costs $4 a month more to run.

We then went on to examples of people who think they're saving money, but are actually likely burning more fuel than they're saving when shopping for gas, or at the very least saving literally only pennies.

There can obviously be times where you're being unnecessarily wasteful, and it can obviously be a good idea to work on that, but that wasn't the context being discussed. At least not in my particular post. I even acknowledged in a later post that we should keep in mind that seemingly small costs/savings can add up when multiplied.
