So I'm looking into a new phone as mine is effectively EOL (all evidence I've found says maybe one more security update). I love my Moto G100 and it's a great phone, but it came out just before Motorola decided to offer long term phone support and now I'm looking into a new phone.

Both cost about the same.

Do I:

-Roll the dice on Motorola being truthful and keeping their promise and get an Edge+ 2022 that says it will have bi-monthly security support until 2025/2026, and get up to android (15?) maybe

OR

Play it safe and get a refurb S22+ from Samsung that I have no evidence to believe they would like about software support and get an objectively better phone (Victus glass, better image processing, guaranteed support for features that they advertise as the phone having. Support ends 2026 for OS, 2027 for security patches.

In car terms:

Do I get:

Ford focus ST (Motorola)

or

VW Golf GTI (Samsung)

I would risk it and get the Motorolla. Typically, when a manufacturer breaks a promise like that it is because they don't have enough customers to make it worthwhile. I wouldn't want to be a part of that issue, especially if I generally like the brand.

Apart from software support and cheaping out for gorilla glass 3, I've absolutely loved my G100. I just have a bad feeling that the software support pledge is gonna end up with "pray I don't alter the deal any further"

Well, that being said, it seems that both options are equally good and bad in their own ways. Just choose the one that makes you the most comfortable long term and gives you the least "ick".

I feel a pros and cons list in my future.

Having used a phone with no updates for 2 years i dont understand the need for those updates.
Your phone will still work, and still is as vulnerable as now, or as how careful the owner of one is.

You might still get another 1-2 years of a phone like that if the battery hangs on that is. (or replace it).

Also the car analogy doesn't work, you do realize the Ford is more expensive right?!

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!
I'm just helping YOU to help YOURSELF!
(The more info you give the easier it is for others to help you out!)

Equal Relative performance, Focus ST is no longer produced with no guarantee for future support, Golf GTI still in production and has continuing support.

Gremlins are starting to show and evidence points to a mildly corrupted OS (certain WIFI functions will cause the phone to crash and reboot, as of this minute it is lightly possessed by a Facebook video on endless loop if I don't force close the app, fingerprint sensor is getting very flakey). Battery is good, cameras aren't cracked.

And this isn't an immediate replacement, I'd say this is probably at least a month or so down the line. Most of the reason for upgrade for me is QOL and peace of mind.
