I can’t get both mic and audio to work though my headset.

Title says it all but more details below.

my headset has a trrs plug. The headset i currently use i use a splitter and it works. however, i plan on upgrading and the cases i like don’t have 2 ports.(separate audio in and out) i don’t want to plug it into the motherboard as that will put more tension on the cord. i use realtek for my audio driver thingy. i don’t know if it’s a case problem or something else but am wondering if there’s a way to get both mic and audio to work through the single plug without the splitter.

can it be an old case problem? I did some more research on it and it looks like it a age thing. (case is a HP Compaq 6200 pro small form factor)
