Damaged PCIe slot?

Hey all,

I've received a pre-build PC today which seems to have a severely bent/broken PCI-e slot underneath the GPU.
I haven't tried to boot yet because I'm guessing it might cause some damage. 

Is there any harm in testing if the PC will boot? And if it should, I'm guessing I should still RMA right?

yup...just make photos send an email and rma ...do not even bother seeing if it works

Would it be possible to provide more information?  Something like who made it since you said it was a pre-built.  How about is the machine under some sort of warranty.  Maybe a picture that shows the complete inside of the case?  Just need a little more information so that an informed opinion would come to mind.

Definitely RMA it. I don't think there's any point to even try to boot it

it is the suppliers responsiblity to ensure that your paid for PC arrives in a usable state. so not worth even trying to see if it works because any other damage that might be hidden from view and only appears later is simply not worth the risk. Bummer that waiting for it to arrive and now still no PC but really the RMA is your only realistic option. you spent good money wait for a good pc to be delivered.

do not turn it on, chances are nothing will happen but that looks so mangled that there is bound to be shorted parts possibly creating some additional damage when electricity goes through the system,.

I would try to be certain that the gpu in there does not come back in the next pc as even though it might work short term it will certainly be compromised long term

 

Any built PC that is then going to be transported should have the gpu removed ideally, but at least have additional protection/packaging/support for transit

It also looks like one of the dimm slots' clips wasn't put back in place. Not that it's problematic in any way, it just feels like a very unprofessional job...

It almost looks like that board got wet at some point.

 

Don't try to power it up, just file an RMA.

I am not sure what everyone else is seeing (dimm slots? wet?) its clearly the pcie slot has been sheared off the mobo to some degree, just the weight of the graphics card ripping the pcie slot of the mobo when it was dropped in transit, in the depot thrown off the back of the van or similar. 

 

I ship plenty of pcs and you put it in the universes hands when you hand it to any courier, regardless of how well packaged it is (obviously the better the less chance) put I use a vast amount of protection when sending pcs out and it is still a gamble, saying that I have had pcs turn up to me with a few bits of paper as protection and they arrive intact
