What is Virtual Super Resolution?

VSR is essentially just AMD's lingo for supersampling/downscaling. It renders the game (or even your desktop) at a higher resolution and then downscales it for your display. I abused it a TON when they first introduced it since I could get a 1440p desktop experience with a 1080p monitor, and it was actually more performance-effective than something like MSAA while generally providing better looking results.

Can my PC handle 1440p?

Maybe not for all games, but if anything you'd just have to adjust settings. For the games I play, even my 2080 is stuck wheezing at 1440p.

I was using VSR on my laptop with 1080p external monitors for work. It was amazing how it made text look so much better on those monitors, much better than the result of other text anti-alias methods such as cleartype or Mac type.

 

Now I'm switching to a intel 12th gen laptop with only integrated GPU, and the monitors immediately look bad again. I couldn't find any feature like VSR on it, hope someone could help if you know some alternative way to achieve super sampling/down sampling on intel iGPU.
