Will this i7 bottleneck a 3060ti

Technically yes, but should you worry? Absolutely not.

I mean the 12700K is a perfectly capable gaming processor, and is still damn close to the top of the performance charts here.

Can you engineer situations in specific titles where the 12700K might hamper your GPU's performance? Yes. Try running games at 720p and see how things go.

Realistically though you're not equipping it with the fastest GPU available, and you're probably gaming at reasonable resolutions.Unless you're really into high refresh rate gaming you'll be fine.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

I'm sorry, but in what scenario a 12700K bottlenecks a 3060 Ti? Please enlighten me bc I can't imagine even a 12400 bottlenecking a 3060 Ti.

OP, FYI my CPU is i5-12400 and my GPU is RX 6800 XT, I play in 1440p.

RX 6800 XT is 41% faster than 3060 Ti in 1080p. So if you only game, any CPU higher than 12400 or R5 5600 would be more than enough.

In any scenario where primary bottleneck is processing power. Literally watch any CPU review out there where FPS is measured in hundreds (Like R6S). You should also familiarize yourself with the term bottleneck.

Maybe my understanding is wrong here, so please correct me, but if the GPU utilization is at 100%, doesn't it mean that there's only GPU bottleneck? Yes, a faster CPU would give more fps with the same GPU, but it doesn't mean that the previous CPU bottlenecked the GPU. If the GPU was already at 100%, it means the CPU could feed enough data to the GPU which means there was no CPU bottleneck.

And to test CPUs, the most powerful GPU has to be used to eliminate GPU bottleneck, and vice versa. No one's going to use a 60 class card for CPU benchmarks, so your point is invalid here.

By your logic, even a 12900k bottlenecks 3060 ti, which is ridiculous to say.

Also, I have a degree in Industrial Engineering and I'm the supervisor of production planning, I make a living out of eliminating bottlenecks.

Saying a 12700k will bottleneck a 3060ti is just an Ackchyually move - it will bottleneck sometimes just like anything else will to greater or lesser degrees. This goes without saying. But pointing out an unreasonable bottleneck for the sake of argument is unhelpful for the question being asked.

The real question is if it is a good pairing, and it absolutely is. You can reasonably pair the 12700K with pretty much any graphics card out there and at an appropriate resolution (that does not mean 1080p with a 4090), and it will work perfectly fine and get you good utilization.

I agree. The only thing the 12700k would reasonably bottleneck would be a 4090 at this point.

Pretty sure everything bottlenecks that outside of 4k ultra

Yup, even the 7950x3d bottlenecks it a bit. No game out currently can even make good use of the 4090. We need better "next-gen" games.
