I recently bought ram 16gb 2400mhz single stick and when I inserted it into my pc, my pc started beeping 3 short and 1 long beep. I tried cleaning the ram pins and blowing the inside of the ram slot but it still does the same thing. My pc is a Lenovo thinkcentre m710e, it is a discontinued pc. Help!!?

Hello welcome to the forums!

Just making sure. The computer was off and unplugged when you installed the new stick correct?

Also, did you add the new stick to the old ram or did you replace the old ram with the new one?

The pc was off and I inserted it with the old stick and the beeping started, I take it out and left the old one and it stopped, I swapped places, beeped. I put only the new one and it beeped.

It's possible it's a bad stick or the motherboard does not support ram, I'd say check the QVL but I doubt they have it anywhere anymore.

Do  you have another stick of different DDR4 you can test? Or another compatible PC to test the new stick in?

Also what speed is the old stick?

If you didn't unplug the power cable then it's possible there was still power to the board and you could have shorted the new stick.

I do not have another stick/ motherboard at the moment, it is 2400mhz like the old one. And is it screwed if it got shorted?

A stick of the same type and speed should work no problem. Install the new stick and try a CMOS reset if you have not, if it's still not working testing the new stick in another computer would be your next best step. If it still doesn't work and was shorted that would mean the stick is fried(dead) and will not be usable and would most likely not be returnable either. So testing it to make sure is really important.

If I have the stick installed, the pc won’t boot up, even with the old stick in as well in the first slot, or maybe I imagined doing that part but oh well, I’m new to pcs and my friend has helped me in every way with what I need to know but I didn’t ask him how to do this.

Sounds to me like it's the stick, which is why I am suggesting testing it in a different system. If it's bad, there isn't much you can do other than return it, and hope it wasn't caused by you when installing it. There isn't going to be a way for you to make it work if the stick is bad.

I’ll ask my friend to try it, I should have a response maybe today or tomorrow
