ROG motherboard

No, but a decent DAC would not be a bad investment. This place will have much more info on the subject.

A DAC is an audio device which converts the digital sound signal into analog audio.

Short for digital analog converter

A DAC is a Digital to Analog Converter. The idea is you can use your PC's digital sound signal (not actual sound, 1's and 0's) to run to a Digital to Analog Converter, which converts those 1's and 0's to an analog wave signal which can be very easily turned to sound waves by speakers or a set of headphones.

The real advantage of an external DAC is that the analog signal is very easily susceptible to interference and distortion from near by electronic fields. Inside your PC there are a lot of sources of these fields which can affect sound quality, therefor, if you can get a bit of distance between the location where that conversion is being done, and any electric fields, you are better off.

Many modern motherboards attempt to isolate the audio circuitry from the other components, and this can improve things but isn't as good (generally) as removing the operation from inside your PC.
