Best External Graphics Card Enclosure

BeastyB314

I'm going to be headed off to college soon, and I am most likely not going to bring my big boy desktop with me to school. However, I am planning on purchasing a Framework Laptop for college, which does support Thunderbolt 4 (according to the internet) and I was thinking about maybe purchasing an external GPU enclosure to let me game at school still. I currently have a 6600XT by itself and a 6900XT in my desktop.

Is it worth it to even purchase an external GPU? If so, which ones are best? I don't want to go crazy overboard with prices, hopefully not spending over like 300$ max, but if the eGPU isn't worth it, then I'll be fine.

I have been looking at certain enclosures like the one from razer, but they all are like super expensive. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

For the cost of most GPU enclosures you can almost build an entire PC. Which would stress the laptop less. This is the route I'd personally take.

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900 Cooler: EVGA CLC280 Motherboard: Gigabyte B550i Pro AX RAM: Kingston Hyper X 32GB 3200mhz

I was afraid of that as I was avoiding trying to make another and bring it to college with me. Thanks anyway though.

Asus has a machine that has an external 3080 mobile that you can hook up, I think it's the Asus z13 flow

I mean...the size difference between a small enclosure and the GPU enclose really isn't that great. The only way to truly cut down on bulk is to buy a gaming laptop instead of the Framework one.
