2060 super PSU Issue

Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

Do you have both GPU power plugs coming off a single cable? (Aka Daisy Chained power)?

If you have another PCIE cable with 2x power plugs, use a single plug of each main cable to power your GPU.

With daisy chained PCIE coming from a single cable My 2080ti had similar behavior.

Switching the GPU power from a single cable with 2 8pins for 2 cables with an 8 pin each being use solved it.

Worth a try if you have the second PCIE power cable available from your PSU.

so I recently just upgrade from a 1650 super to the 2060 super when I first put the new gpu I had no issues what so ever.. now I made a mistake in not looking up what kind of psu would be good to match with the 2060 super and I have a EVGA 500w W1 100-W1-0500-KR 80+ 500W Power Supply. Now like I said I had no issue when I first put the 2060 in ran perfect but as the last month or so I notice in a few games I play (Apex, Rust) my game is freezing the graphics turn to play-doh and are super distorted and with rust my game just hitches an freezes an crashes constantly.. my friend has said it seems like a PSU problem to upgrade an throw the 1650 in till the new psu comes in but here is my issue with that.. I have played games like far cry 6 on ultra never had any issue with the game play what so ever ran smooth also ran the uncharted remastered for pc on ultra setting also an had 0 issue so i worried it might be a gpu issue an not a power supply issue I just want some second opinions before I spend money on a psu that not gonna fix anything... and I have read alot of people running there 2060 supers on 500w power supplys with no issues.

I'm not a PSU knowledgeable fellow sorry.

As per its better but still weird.

Try reducing the GPU Power limit (MSI Afterburner or likewise apps) to say 80% or 70% and test. It might make for a smoother experience until you replace your PSU.

I could even run an RTX 3060Ti on the Dell G5 5090's stupid proprietary 12VO 460W PSU and the 3060Ti consumes up to 220W when I crank the power limit to 110%. The GPU power cable, from what I can see, can only output 12V 18A (216W), but luckily up to 40W get pulled from the PCI-e slot anyway. I just recently upgraded its original RTX 2060 to said RTX 3060Ti
