Windows 11 audio dropouts.

Hey, guys!

So, yeah, quite common problem. Audio dropouts. Mostly happens when browsing Youtube or Twitch. Rarely happens in games.

 

I was advised to use a Latencymon software to check my audio. Seems like a bad windows driver causes a problem. Latencymon shows me different drivers that might be a problem:

NVLDDMKM.sys

DXGKRNL.sys

NTOSKRNL.exe

My Power Management is set to Maximum Performance

All the drivers are up to date

All Windows updates installed

BIOS is the latest version

Windows installed just a week ago

My audio is Stenberg UR 22 MK II

Which exact motherboard? The one from your signature link/topic?

 

If it's an AMD motherboard, did you download the chipset drivers directly from AMD?

 

Since the audio interface uses USB, what can affect your audio is the USB and that means the motherboard (chipset, USB controller) or the chipset/usb drivers.

Eventually the CPU if it's under heavy load or high temperature...

Yeah, it is AMD motherboard and I downloaded the latest chipset drivers from AMD.

This is the reason why I used Latencymon to check. I highly doubt it is a hardware because many people have the same problem, even those without USB audio interface.

I am sure it is not CPU. Like I said, the dropouts are very rare when playing videogames. The dropouts are also a rare thing when I do video editing in Premiere Pro.

How old is the Windows install?

 

Can you show CPU-Z screenshots of the CPU tab, memory tab and motherboard tab?

 

Does the same happen when you disable XMP?

I have it disabled. It is D.O.C.P. because it is AMD. My motherboard doesn't support my memory model in terms of D.O.C.P. stability. I checked QVL

I have it disabled. It is D.O.C.P. because it is AMD. My motherboard doesn't support my memory model in terms of D.O.C.P. stability. I checked QVL

What happens when you enable DOCP? Btw DOCP is not an AMD thing, it's an Asus name for XMP.

 

Have you tried using another USB port?

 

May I recommend using Driver Booster (IObit) to check if there are any newer drivers for something?

Maybe a new vBios?

 

Checked the firmware on the SSD-s for updates?

Oh, wait a second. No, not these drivers. I downloaded my drivers from ASUS. ASUS drivers are older.

I've read that it is not recommended to update firmware. I am not sure about that.

I've read that it is not recommended to update firmware. I am not sure about that.

Well. i did ask you if you downloaded the drivers from AMD, didn't I? AMD fixed some black screen issues, blue screens and some performance issues with that driver.

As for vBios it's the GPU Bios / firmware, not the motherboard.

 

As for SSD firmwares, just like new bioses or drivers, manufacturers make them to fix issues and/or improve performance/longevity/compatibility etc. Avoiding updates is not logical.

So far, I don't know. I need some more time to test. Those dropouts don't appear too often and almost never appear in games.

Yes, some of USB drivers were all the way from 2006. I wonder how's that possible with automatic windows updates...

Damn man, this fckn software messed up my usb drivers! My wireless keyboard and mouse are shown as unknown devices and I can't update their drivers because they are "unavailable". My LOGI+ software for keyboard and mouse doesn't see my devices. Damn!

I was able to fix that by installing SetPoint software by Logi. Found an advice in google. However that driver booster is a weird thing.

Driver Booster offers driver roleback, and you can do it in Device Manager too.

This is a first time in years that I've heard about Driver Booster messing up drivers. Haven't experienced it myself (on hundreds of systems) in the last decade.

Definitely something related to drivers and not a hardware issue. Like I said, I almost never had an audio dropout in a game.

I think I haven't had any dropouts in the last three days. Will see in the next few days. I also had a minor crackling in videogames, but I fixed that by changing audio output frequency from 41 kHz to 48 kHz
